    Description / Table of Contents: Untersuchung des Einflusses von Dampfphaseninhibitoren auf die Benetzbarkeit der Eisenoberfläche mittels KontaktwinkelmessungenDurch die Auswertung von Kontaktwinkelmessungen (Vorrückwinkel) an Systemen primäroxidbedecktes Eisen/Flüssigkeit/Gas wurde der Einfluß von Dicyclohexylammoniumnitrit (DICHAN) und Dicyclohexylamin (DICHAMIN) auf das grenzflächenenergetische Verhalten der realen Eisenoberfläche mittels Näherungsgleichungen abgeschätzt. Die vorgestellten Ergebnisse stützen die bereits aus ellipsometrischen Untersuchungen getroffene Aussage, wonach die Hydrophobierung der Eisenoberfläche in der Anfangsphase des Kontaktes mit DICHAN durch dessen Absorption bedingt wird, während sie im Fall des DICHAMINs bevorzugt durch protolytische Wechselwirkungen mit den Oberflächenhydroxylgruppen der Primäroxidschicht des Eisens zustande kommt und ebenfalls zur Stabilisierung des Passivzustandes beiträgt.
    Notes: The influence of dicyclohexyl ammonium nitrite (DICHAN) and dicyclohexylamine (DICHAMIN) on the interfacial-energetic behaviour of the real iron surface was estimated by means of approximation equations by the evaluation of contact angle measurements (advancing angle) on system of primary-oxidecovered iron/liquid/gas. The presented results support the statement having be made already from ellipsometric investigations that the hydrophobicity of the iron surface during the initial phase of the contact with DICHAN is caused by its adsorption, whereas in the case of DICHAMIN it is brought about probably by protolytic interactions with the surface hydroxyl groups of the primary oxide layer of iron and contributes to the stabilization of the passive state, too.

    Description / Table of Contents: Wetting phenomena are often used to estimate the surface tension of solids on the basis of the ZISMAN concept of critical surface tension of wetting, γc. The critical surface tension characterizes the surface free energy of a solid in contact with a liquid. In analogy to ZISMAN the so-called critical surface tension of adsorption γcπ is proposed. The various forms of γc's and their relationship to the surface free energy of substrates are discussed. Experimental results are presented.
    Notes: Benetzungsphänomene werden häufig zur Abschätzung der Oberflächenspannung fester Stoffe herangezogen. ZISMAN führte dazu das Konzept der kritischen Oberflächenspannung der Benetzung γc ein. Die kritische Oberflächenspannung ist ein Charakteristikum der Festkörperoberfläche in bezug auf ihren Kontakt mit Flüssigkeiten. In Analogie dazu wird eine auf der Adsorption basierende kritische Oberflächenspannung γcπ empfohlen und deren experimentelle Bestimmung an Beispielen gezeigt.

    Description / Table of Contents: Structure Studies on Derivatives of the Nickel Complex Ni(ONO) (ONO2- = Dianion of a Tridentate Schiff Base)The thermodynamically stable form of the solvent free, formally tri-coordinate complex Ni(ONO) (ONO2- = dianion of N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-3-ox(o-butene(1) amine(1)) as well as the mono adducts Ni(ONO)X with X = ammonia and X = diphenyl thiourea (DPT) have been characterized by X-ray structure analysis. In all cases the central atom is coordinated in a square-planar fashion, only for the adduct Ni(ONO)(DPT) a pyramidal distortion is observed which is due to the formation of hydrogen bonds. The solvent free form is a dimer [Ni(ONO)]2, and represents one of the few examples of dinuclear nickel complexes with a planar [NO3] coordination. The phenolic O-atoms act as bridging ligands. Due to their reduced π-donor strength the bond lengths Ni—O trans to the bridges are significantly shortened. In contrast to the analogous complex with an aliphatic bridge, “NiEIA”, both halves of the dimeric molecules are coplanar with a Ni—Ni distance of 3.29 Å.
    Notes: Die thermodynamisch stabile Form des solvensfreien, formal dreifach koordinierten Komplexes Ni(ONO) (ONO2- = Dianion des N-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-3-oxo-buten(1)-amin(1)) sowie die Monoaddukte Ni(ONO)X mit X = Ammoniak und Diphenylthioharnstoff (DPT) werden durch Röntgenstrukturanalyse charakterisiert. Das Zentralatom ist stets planarquadratisch koordiniert; nur das Addukt Ni(ONO)(DPT) zeigt eine durch die Ausbildung von Wasserstoffbrücken bedingte pyramidale Verzerrung. Die solvensfreie Form repräsentiert als Dimer [Ni(ONO)]2 eines der wenigen Beispiele dinuclearer Nickelkomplexe mit planarer NO3-Koordination. Als Brückenliganden wirken die Phenolatsauerstoffatome; aufgrund ihrer abgeschwächten π-Donorwirkung sind die transständigen Ni—O-Bindungen der Chelatsechsringe signifikant verkürzt. Im Gegensatz zum aliphatisch überbrückten Analogen „Ni(EIA)“ sind beide Molekülhälften coplanar mit einem Ni—Ni-Abstand von 3,29 Å angeordnet.

Comparative Investigations on the Axial Ligation of Tricyclic and Macrocyclic Iron Chelate Complexes of Schiff BasesThe addition of axial bases at the iron chelates 1a and 2b has been compared by isolation of stable adducts with methanol, pyridine, and imidazole. 1a forms octahedral high-spin adducts whereas 2b gives mainly pentacoordinated intermediate-spin and octahedral low-spin derivatives. The iodo-iron(III) derivatives are high-spin too in the case 1a and intermediate-spin in the case 2b. The carbonyl substituted macrocycles 2 are closer related to iron porphyrines than the analogous chelates 3 and 4.
    Notes: Die Addition axialer Basen an die Eisenchelate 1a und 2b wurde durch Isolierung stabiler Addukte mit Methanol, Pyridin und Imidazol verglichen. 1a bildet oktaedrische high-spin-Addukte, während 2b hauptsächlich pentakoordinierte intermediate-spin-und oktaedrische low-spin-Derivate ergibt. Auch die Iodoeisen(III)-Derivate sind bei 1a high-spin- und bei 2b intermediate-spin-Komplexe. Die carbonylsubstituierten Makrocyclen 2 sind den Eisenporphyrinen enger verwandt als die analogen Chelate 3 und 4.

Effect of Axial Bases on the Spin Ground State and the Charge Transfer Spectra of Iron Complexes with a Colorless Porphyrine-like [N4]-MacrocycleIn contrast to similar macrocycles without the carbonyl substituents R2, the iron(II) complexes 3 react with several bases to form stable adducts. With imidazole, dark red diamagnetic (S = 0) sesqui- and diadducts have been isolated. They are oxidized quickly by air to give dark green polymeric low-spin (S = 1/2) iron(III) derivatives with one imidazolate anion as a bridging axial ligand. With pyridine, ammonia, methanol etc. intense red monoadducts are formed which are intermediate-spin (S = 1) complexes. Preparation of 3a in the presence of water results in a very instable yellow product which appears to be a high-spin (S = 2) diadduct. All the iron(II) complexes are extremely sensitive to air. The spectra of the iron(III) derivatives exhibit a single CT band in the visible region. The energy of the sharp maximum is strongly influenced by axial ligands and can be used to characterize the coordination properties of several bases.
    Notes: Im Gegensatz zu ähnlichen Makrocyclen ohne die Carbonylsubstituenten R2 reagieren die Eisen(II)-Komplexe 3 mit verschiedenen Basen unter Bildung stabiler Addukte. Mit Imidazol wurden dunkelrote, diamagnetische (S = O) Sesqui- bzw. Diaddukte isoliert. Sie werden durch Luft rasch zu grünen, polymeren low-spin (S = 1/2) Eisen(III)-Derivaten mit einem Imidazolat-Anion als Brückenligand oxydiert. Mit Pyridin, Ammoniak, Methanol usw. bilden sich intensiv rote Monoaddukte, bei denen es sich um „intermediate-spin“ (S = 1) Komplexe handelt. Die Darstellung von 3a in Gegenwart von Wasser führt zu einem sehr instabilen, gelben Produkt, welches ein high-spin (S = 2) Diaddukt zu sein scheint. Alle Eisen(II)-Komplexe sind extrem luftempfindlich. Die Vis-Spektren der Eisen(III)-Derivate zeigen eine einfache CT-Bande. Die Energie des scharfen Maximums wird stark durch axiale Liganden beeinflußt und kann zur Charakterisierung des Koordinationsverhaltens verschiedener Basen dienen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Structural and mechanical properties of solid-state extruded high-density polyethylene have been investigated in dependence on extrusion rate and temperature. The modulus of elasticity scarcely depends on the extrusion temperature but decreases as the extrusion rate increases. There is no influence of these quantities on the orientation of crystallites; the crystallinity, however, increases with increasing extrusion temperature.
    Notes: Der Einfluß von Extrusionsgeschwindigkeit und -temperature auf Struktur und mechanische Eigenschaften von im festen Zustand extrudiertem Polyethylen hoher Dichte wird untersucht. Es zeigt sich, daß der Elastizitätsmodul sich mit der Extrusionstemperatur kaum ändert, während er mit der Extrusionsrate abnimmt. Im untersuchten Bereich konnte kein Einfluß dieser Größen auf die Kristallitorientierung gefunden werden, während die Kristallinität mit der Extrusionstemperatur ansteigt.
