Description / Table of Contents:
A multi-step zone-drawing procedure, consisting of a cold drawing and a connected hot drawing step, is investigated as a possibility for preparation of poly(ethylene terephthalate)-structures with higher stiffness and strength. The dependences of the drawing behaviour on drawing conditions as well as the influence of drawing conditions on molecular orientation and on the static mechanical properties are discussed. Drawing degrees of 4.2 ≦ λ 7.5, birefringences of 0.177 ≦ Δn 0.249, Young's moduli of 7.1 GPa ≦ E ≦ 16.8 GPa, and breaking stresses of 570 MPa ≦ σBrσ 970 MPa have been achieved.
Notes:
