Description: Caspian Kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum) is one of the most important commercial bony fishes in Iranian coastal waters of the Caspian Sea that constitute more than 50% of the total annual catch of the bony fishes. In the fishing season of 2003-2004, 5 mobile working groups gathered biometry data in the regions Anzali, Kiashar, Noshahr, Babolsar and Torkmen. Catch statistics of bony fishes was gained from fishing and landing harbors. Total catch of the commercial bony fishes was estimated at 15.5 thousand tons from which the Kutum amounted to 8477 tons, 45.5% of the total. Also, catch of the bony fishes of beach seine cooperatives was estimated at 10667 tons where the Caspian Kutum comprised 5180 tons (48.65%). The catch per unit effort (CPUE) of the Caspian Kutum amounted to 93.3 kg/set with the highest value recorded in Noshahr and the lowest amount observed in Anzali and Kiashahr regions. The mean fork length of the species was 36.7 plus or minus 6.1cm showing a range of 21 to 69cm. The mean age was measured as 3.82 plus or minus 1.37 years with the range of 1 to 8 years. The age groups 3, 4 and 5 years old comprised 87% of the total catch age composition. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters such as L infinity , k and t sub(0) were determined as 70.1cm, 0.138/year and -1.557 years, respectively. Total mortality, natural mortality and fishing mortality rates of the species were estimated at 1.1/year, 0.28/year and 0.83/year, respectively (considering a surface water temperature of 14 degree C). The biomass of the fish was estimated at 25 thousand tons.

Description: For gathering of data on biometry and catch statistics, 5 mobile working group in the regions of Anzali , Kiashahr , Noshahr , Babolsar and Torkmen were involved from the start ( 2004 / 10 / 03 ) to the end of fishing season ( 2005 / 04 / 10 ) . gathered data Were entered to the computer based on species. For data analysis different methods Were undertaken such as Bertalanfy equation for growth parameter Beverton and Holt for total mortality rates, pauly's imperical model for natural mortality rate and cohort Analysis for biomass estimation. Totall catch with taking into account of pauching , estinmated 15500 tonnes reported by scientific committee of catch and fishing harbor relief of Iranian Fishery Company .The total recorded catch of beach seine cooperatives was 10667 tons that comprise 69% of the total catch . Total catch of Caspian Kutum was estimated 8477 tons that had 2500 tons decrease with comparison of the last year. Biomass of Caspian kutum in Iranian coastal Water of the Caspian sea in 2003 2004 estimated about 25000 tons. The catch of pick perch in 2003 2004 decreased with comparison of the last year and estimated about 38 tons from which 15 tons were caught by beach seine cooperatives . Most of the catch of pick perch was immature and undersize. Approximately all of the catch is due to releasing of fingerling of this species by fishery company. Totall catch of bream was estimated 26.3 tons from which 15.4 tons were caught by beach seine cooperatives . Most of which was immature and undersize.

Description: We evaluated the stocks of Huso huso in the south Caspian Sea along Iranian coasts using data on different population parameters such as length, age, weight, catch and catch per unit effort changes. The study covered data from 1971 to 2003. The stocks and catch rate of H. huso shows a decrease during the last three decades. The recorded catch for the years 1971-1972 was 74 tons with 5.55kg catch per unit effort which was decreased to 38 tons with 0.26kg per unit effort in 2003 in gillnet fishery and the same trend was observed in beach seine fishing. The data shows that during 1990 to 2003, the average length of the fish has increased from 192.8 to 216.2 centimeters and the average weight has improved from 73 kg to 116.3 kg. Age frequency comparison between the catch of the years 1990 and 2003 showed that with time, older age classes replaced the younger ones, hence the increase in the length and weight of the fish. Due to the decrease in the younger fish and the increase in illegal fishing, it is anticipated that the fish stocks will suffer a decrease in future.

For data analysis different methods were undertaken such as Bertallanfy equation for growth parameter Beverton and Holt for total mortality rates, pauly's imperical model for natural mortality rate and cohort Analysis for biomass estimation. Total catch with taking into account of poaching, was estimated 15140 tons reported by scientific committee of catch and fishing harbor relief of Iranian Fishery Company. The total recorded catch of beach seine cooperatives was 10644 tons that comprise 70.2% of the total catch. Total catch of Caspian Kutum was estimated 6612 tons that had 1856 tons (22%) decrease with comparison of the last year. Biomass of Caspian kutum in Iranian coastal Water of the Caspian Sea in 2003-2004 estimated about 20400 tons. The total catch of golden gray mullet was estimated 4425.6 tons that constitute 29.2% of total catch of bony fishes. Biomass of this species was estimated 12200 tons and based on this amount of biomass, Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) was calculated as 3577 tons. Long nose mullet comprised only 1.4% of the mullet catch. The catch of common carp in 2004-2005 fishing season continued its increasing trend and caught in amount of 3087 tons by beach seine cooperatives that had 2.2 fold increase in comparison of previous fishing season. Most of the catch occurred in Golestan province and was immature and undersize and the length frequency modes showed moving towards bigger size and older age groups in comparison of previous fishing season. The catch of pick perch in 2003-2004 decreased with comparison of the last year and estimated about 22.5 tons. Most of the catch of pick perch was immature and undersize. Approximately all of the catch is due to releasing of fingerling of this species by Fishery Company especially in Guilan province. Total catch of bream was estimated 27.4 tons and most of which was immature and undersize. Population of asp is critically endangered and the catch of this species is very low (500 kg). Restocking of this species must be considered by Iranian fishing company.
