    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Geological investigations of the authors both on the surface and in the mine of Sangdong scheelite deposit (South Korea) yielded the following results: Sangdong is not a pure contact deposit assumed so far. Selective mineralisation of the Cambrian Myobong Beds gave rise to the formation of skarn rocks during a silicatepneumatolytic phase, while during a subsequent pneumatolytic-katathermal transitional stage as well as during a hypothermal stage those skarn rocks were penetrated by scheelitebearing quartz-veins. With the hypothermal activity the formation of scheelite reached its peak, although scheelite was ubiquitous throughout the pneumatolytic and hydrothermal phases of mineralisation. Indications of hypogene zoning of primary mineralisation can be observed in the mine. Certain relations exist between scheelite mineralisation on the one hand, and tectonics, permeability and chemical properties of the country rock on the other hand. The scheelite deposit of Sangdong is part of a tin-tungstenprovince the orebringer of which is as yet unknown. The mineralisation, however, had taken place presumably in connection with granite intrusions at the boundary Jurassic/Cretaceous, judging from the present knowledge of the regional geology.
    Abstract: Résumé Des investigations géologiques, tant dans les travaux souterrains qu'â la surface, poursuivies dans la région des gisements de scheelite de Sangdong (Corée du Sud) ont conduit les auteurs aux résultats suivants: Sangdong n'est pas un gisement de contact métamorphique proprement dit, comme on l'a supposé jusqu'à présent. Une minéralisation sélective dans les couches de Myobong, d'âge cambrien, a conduit, au cours d'une phase pneumatolytique silicatée, à la formation de skarns recoupés ensuite par des filons de quartz à scheelite lors d'une phase transitoire de type catathermal-pneumatolitique et lors d'une stade catathermal. Les maximas de formation de la scheelite ont lieu lors de ces deux stades, tandis que par ailleurs à Sangdong la phase pneumatolytique-hydrothermale est persistante. Dans les travaux souterrains on peut recueillir des indices sur des différences primaires dans la profodeur. Des relations apparaissent entre la minéralisation en scheelite d'une part et la tectonique, la perméabilité et le chimisme des roches encaissantes d'autre part. Le gisement de scheelite de Sangdong appartient à une province étain-wolfram dont la venue minéralisante n'est pas connue. Mais la minéralisation a eu lieu très probablement à la limite jurassique-crétacique en relation avec des intrusions granitiques connues dans la géologie de la région.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Geologische Übertage- und Untertageaufnahmen der Verfasser im Bereich der Scheelitlagerstätte Sangdong (Südkorea) führten zu folgenden Ergebnissen: Sangdong ist keine reine Kontaktlagerstätte, wie bisher angenommen wurde. Selektive Vererzung in den kambrischen Myobong Beds führte während einer silikatpneumatolytischen Phase zur Bildung von Skarnfelsen, die in einem nachfolgenden pneumatolytisch-katathermalen Übergangsstadium und in einem katathermalen Stadium von scheelitführenden Quarzgängen durchschlagen wurden. Die Bildungsmaxima des Scheelits liegen in diesen beiden Stadien, während er sonst in Sangdong ein Durchläufer vom pneumatolytischen bis zum hydrothermalen Bereich ist. Untertage sind Anzeichen primärer Teufenunterschiede festzustellen. Die zwischen der Scheelitvererzung einerseits und der Tektonik, der Wegsamkeit und dem Chemismus des Nebengesteins andererseits existierenden Zusammenhänge werden aufgezeigt. Die Scheelitlagerstätte Sangdong gehört zu einer Zinn-Wolfram-Provinz, deren Erzbringer nicht bekannt ist. Die Vererzung dürfte jedoch an der Wende Jura/Kreide im Zusammenhang mit Granitintrusionen erfolgt sein, wie sie aus der regionalen Geologie bekannt sind.

    Notes: Abstract Based on the results of the Conference on Resource Assessment Techniques of IGCP Project 98 in Loen, Norway, 1976, the importance of mineral and energy inventories is demonstrated by their long-term objectives which aim at the solution of problems of quantitative and qualitative mineral and energy reserve and resource assessments, estimates of the exploration potential, supply analysis, future land-use planning, and national mineral policy. Prior to establishing a mineral and energy inventory it is essential to clearly define both the long-term and short-term objectives, because they control the scope of an inventory and determine the approach to and the method of constructing the data base. Only then can questions be answered as to the kind of data required, the advantages of regional-versus commodity-based inventories, the necessity of computer-processable data files, the availability of a user-oriented data base management system, and the usefulness of conducting a pilot project. Examples are given for simple and complex types of mineral and energy inventories. The “Mineral Deposit Inventory” of the Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Hannover, Federal Republic of Germany, serves mainly as an information and reference system, whereas the mineral inventory of “Project Manitoba” of the Geological Survey of Canada forms the base for reserve and resource assessment as well as land-use planning of that province. For developing and industrialized countries alike, mineral and energy inventories are appropriate tools in planning new exploration activities and decisions on future national mineral policy. Used by the Regional Mineral Resources Development Centers of ESCAP and ECA, the United Nations economic commissions in Asia and Africa, these tools could be of great advantage and mutual benefit to the developing countries of those regions.

    Notes: Abstract The exploration of mineral, energy, and water resources requires increasingly access to and usage of relevant up-to-date scientific technical, and economic information on relevant literature and factual data. At present, an Information Center on Mineral Resources and Geosciences is being established in the Federal Republic of Germany. The geoscience information center is responsible for the coordination of acquisition, storage, and dissemination of data on mineral and energy resources, water resources, and economic geology to inform public administration, relevant industry, research institutions, and universities by means of access to a variety of data bases. In the final stage, the information will be accessible on-line through a computer center at Karlsruhe (INKA).Available for the user are national data bases, comprising literature, and factual data on geoscience, mining, deposits, hydrogeology, ocean research, and marine technology, hydrology, oceanography, geodesy, and meteorology, as well as access to international literature and factual data bases. The relational retrieval system GRIPS-DIRS is in use for handling literature data bases at Karlsruhe (INKA),and the hierarchical storage and retrieval system ADABAS for handling factual data bases. The establishment of data-about-data-systems and the dissemination of publicly available evluated data in form of graphical displays of maps is envisaged. The geoscience information center cooperates intensely with similar centers of other disciplines in the Federal Republic of Germany.
