Abstract Ultrasonic shear waves have been used to estimate the degree of anisotropy present within roll-drawn polypropylene samples, using shear wave birefringence. These measurements have been correlated with the physical properties that result from the draw ratio used during manufacture. It is shown that the technique has promise as a monitoring tool for this material.
