Abstract Specific characteristics of contactless thermochromizing (as applied to slabs, skillets, and hollow ingots) in vacuum furnaces with one-sided heating were studied. It was shown that the chromized layer thickness and the chromium content in this layer depend on the relative position of the metallizer and the part metallized. Chromizing leads to a reduction in the metal strength which, however, is fully restored during the subsequent working of the parts treated.
