Notes: Based on the analysis of internal force and stress of the truss after diagonal web member deviated in vierendeel truss type transfer story in a tall building, influence on the truss after diagonal web member deviated and suggestion of reinforcement are introduced. After reinforcement, this building has been put into use. Based on the observation of the transfer story in this building after use, it is found that the transformation satisfies applying requirements and no crack occurs

Notes: Electrodeposited Zn and Zn-Fe alloy have been applied widely to protect steel fromcorrosion, but the property of coating still needs to be improved. In this paper, Zn-Fe-SiO2 compositecoatings are electrodeposited from Zn-Fe alloy electrolyte containing SiO2 particles. Zinc basedcoatings with Fe% 〉1%(mass) are deposited from sulfate bath, and coatings with Fe% 〈1%(mass) aredeposited from chloride bath. Particle content in the composite coating generally increases withparticle concentration under an adequate agitation and then tends to saturation. The optimum particlecontent in the composite coating is 0.5%(mass). Corrosion resistance, porosity, hydrogenembrittlement and surface morphology of Zn-Fe-SiO2 composite coatings have been tested andcompared with electrodeposited Zn and Zn-Fe alloy. The data implies that Zn-Fe-SiO2 compositecoating has the best corrosion resistance, lowest porosity, lowest hydrogen content and the finestcrystal. All the results show that Zn-Fe-SiO2 composite coating is satisfactory to be used asanti-corrosion material for steel and has a great future in application

Notes: Seismic response of a multi-span bridge is investigated in this study using an Internet based testing platform. The platform, NetSLab, was developed based on client/server concept along with a proposed data model and communication protocols. The platform is capable of transferring control and feedback data and signals among remotely located structural testing laboratories or computers connected by Internet. In these tests, a three-pier bridge system was simulated in which a Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) retrofitted reinforced concrete pier was tested physically in Hunan University and a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) reinforced concrete retrofitted pier was tested physically in Harbin Institute of Technology and the third one was simulated numerically in Tsinghua University. The bridge was loaded to simulate the responses under ground motions corresponding to earthquake hazards for a highly seismic location with 63%, 10%, 2% chance of exceedance in 50 years. The experiments demonstrate that the bridge structure with retrofitted piers has adequate behavior under earthquake loading even in areas of high earthquake intensity

Notes: A networked structural laboratories system for seismic simulation of structures is presented. It consists of an independent network based communication platform (NCP) and various applications based on NCP. The NCP was developed based on client/server concept along with a proposed data model and communication protocols. It is capable of transferring control and feedback data among computers connected by Internet that is a hierarchical network with ubiquitous deployment of middleboxes, such as firewalls and network address translators. Communication speed tests were conducted in various network environments. Applications for hybrid dynamic test of bridge and building structures have been developed and remote hybrid tests of structures were carried out among the Hunan University, the Harbin Institute of Technology, and the Tsinghua University

Notes: Abstract For modular group algebras over an arbitrary field we define new type of blocks: blocks with nilpotent extensions, and describe their source algebras. To do it, a general pattern is proposed for relations between the source algebra of a block and the source algebra of a block appearing in its decomposition in a suitable extension of the field of coefficients.

Notes: Abstract The 5′ upstream region (−680 to +40), containing the potential promoter and complete signal peptide coding sequence of the rice seed storage prolamin gene was amplifiedin vitro using the polymerase chain reaction from the genome of Chinese rice cultivar Zhonghua 8. The physical map and DNA sequence analysis show strong homology with the 5′ flanking region of the rice prolamin gene published by Kim and Okita (1988a). No change in the signal peptide coding sequence and a long leader sequence with several small open reading frames were found. The chimaeric gene containing the 5′ flanking region of the prolamin gene (−680 to −18) was transcriptionally fused with the β-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene and the fusion junction was confirmed by both physical mapping and DNA sequence analysis. The resultant chimaeric gene was used to transform tobacco explants, using the Ti binary system ofAgrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404. Three transgenic tobacco plants with as many as 20 copies of the chimaeric GUS gene (confirmed by dot and Southern hybridization) were analysed further. Histochemical analysis revealed GUS activity in the endosperm tissue of tobacco seed at the developmental stage about 20 days after flowering (DAF). No GUS activity was found in leaves, stems, roots and flowers of the transgenic tobacco plants. Therefore, we conclude that the 5′ upstream region from −680 to −18 was sufficient to confer the endosperm-specific expression of the rice prolamin gene.

Description: To consistently produce high quality products, a quality management system, such as the ISO9001, 2000 or TS 16949 must be practically implemented. One core instrument of the TS16949 MSA (Measurement System Analysis) is to rank the capability of a measurement system and ensure the quality characteristics of the product would likely be transformed through the whole manufacturing process. It is important to reduce the risk of Type I errors (acceptable goods are misjudged as defective parts) and Type II errors (defective parts are misjudged as good parts). An ideal measuring system would have the statistical characteristic of zero error, but such a system could hardly exist. Hence, to maintain better control of the variance that might occur in the manufacturing process, MSA is necessary for better quality control. Ball screws, which are a key component in precision machines, have significant attributes with respect to positioning and transmitting. Failures of lead accuracy and axial-gap of a ball screw can cause negative and expensive effects in machine positioning accuracy. Consequently, a functional measurement system can incur great savings by detecting Type I and Type II errors. If the measurement system fails with respect to specification of the product, it will likely misjudge Type I and Type II errors. Inspectors normally follow the MSA regulations for accuracy measurement, but the choice of measuring system does not merely depend on some simple indices. In this paper, we examine the stability of a measuring system by using a Monte Carlo simulation to establish bias, linearity variance of the normal distribution, and the probability density function. Further, we forecast the possible area distribution in the real case. After the simulation, the measurement capability will be improved, which helps the user classify the measurement system and establish measurement regulations for better performance and monitoring of the precision of the ball screw.
