Description: The application of computer-generated imagery to analyze numerical solutions of fluid flow is presented. High-performance graphics workstations, their current capabilities, and their use in flow field analysis are discussed. Interactive flow field computations about complex three-dimensional bodies applying computer-generated imagery are projected for the future.

Description: This paper describes an interactive procedure to construct grids about fighter aircraft using a state-of-the-art workstation. The aircraft are characterized by a fuselage with an integrated canopy over the cockpit, an engine inlet, an area ruled midsection, canards, and highly-swept cranked delta wings or strakes integrated into the wings and tail surfaces. The grid topology, configuration surface grid, exterior grid computation, and computational interactive process are addressed.

Description: The intent is to present an effort undertaken at NASA Langley Research Center to design a generic raster image format and to develop tools for processing images prepared in this format. Both the Raster Metafile (RM) format and the Raster Metafile Translator (RMT) are addressed. This document is intended to serve a varied audience including: users wishing to display and manipulate raster image data, programmers responsible for either interfacing the RM format with other raster formats or for developing new RMT device drivers, and programmers charged with installing the software on a host platform.

Description: An interactive procedure to construct grids about fighter aircraft configurations using a 'state-of-the-art' workstation is described. A multiple-block grid topology is used to minimize grid skewness. Grid points on the surface of a configuration are precomputed and stored on the faces of appropriate blocks. Grid points at intermediate and far field boundary surfaces are computed with analytical functions and stored on appropriate faces. Grid points in the interior of blocks are computed using transfinite interpolation with Lagrangian and exponential blending functions. Interactive software has been written for the IRIS 3030 graphics workstation to control the shape and spacing of grid points on intermediate and far field boundaries, and to control the interior interpolation.

Description: An interactive grid adaption method is developed, discussed and applied to the unsteady flow about an oscillating airfoil. The user is allowed to have direct interaction with the adaption of the grid as well as the solution procedure. Grid points are allowed to adapt simultaneously to several variables. In addition to the theory and results, the hardware and software requirements are discussed.
