Description / Table of Contents:
Summary Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg, Berlin, became a pioneer of the German deep sea research by his micro-geological studies. He claimed—though in vain—the insertion of the deep sea sounding lead of L. Brooke for the German over-sea expeditions (1859–1866). His proposal was only realized by the oceanographic expedition of the German Navy on the “Gazelle” (1874–1876).
