Notes: Abstract The extraction of UO 2 2+ from nitrate solution has been carried out using DHDECMP. Different parameters affecting the distribution coefficient of UO 2 2+ have been determined. The extraction of UO 2 2+ was found to have second order dependency on both extractant and H+ concentrations. Addition of some bases as TBP and TOPO to the phosphonate extractant increased the distribution of UO 2 2+ to a great extent. LogD for UO 2 2+ with respect to both synergistic bases was found to be a first order dependent. The thermodynamic parameters have been calculated and the extraction mechanisms have been suggested.

Notes: Abstract The extraction of Co/III/ by benzoylacetone solutions has been carried out from acetateacetic acid solutions. The effect of different parameters affecting the distribution coefficient of Co/III/ have been determined. Lg D for Co was found to be a third order dependent on extractant concentration and a negative first order with respect to [H+]. From the thermodynamic parameters and the data of distribution ratios, the extraction mechanism has been suggested. Addition of some electron donor compounds shows no possibility for the increase of coordination number.

Notes: Abstract Dibutyl N,N,-dibutylcarbamoylmethylphosphonate (DBDBCMP) has been used in the extraction study of Eu(III) from low acidic solutions. The different parameters affecting the distribution ratio have been studied. The reaction is considered as a chelate interaction and the extracted species are Eu(OH)2 DBDBCMP·2HDBDBCMP and Eu(NO3)2 DBDBCMP. HDBDBCMP from perchlorate and nitrate, respectively. The equilibrium constants corresponding to the different species formed are calculated and discussed. The effect of changing diluent on extraction capacity of the phosphonate is also studied and discussed.

Notes: Abstract The extraction of Co(III) has been studied from acetate medium by acetylacetone in CHCl3. The effect of adding different synergetic bases (S) like diisobutyl ketone, dibutyl ether, diisobutyl carbinol and tributyl phosphate was studied. The extracted species is Co(OH)2 (AcAc)·2HAcAc by acetylacetone only while the species formed for the mixed extractants are Co(OH)2 (AcAc)·(HAcAc) (S)n where “n”=1 or 2. The corresponding thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed.

Notes: Abstract The migration of radionuclides with groundwater into the environment of a radioactive waste repository is an important aspect in evaluating the safety assessment of such repositories. The potential transport and fate of these radioactive species are dependent upon their speciation and the geochemical behavior of the predominant ones. The speciation of different valence states of neptunium [Np(IV, V and VI)] and their migration behavior are investigated. The data revealed that the uptake is highly dependent upon pH and the distribution coefficient (K d) is depressed by the presence of organic ligands. The relative migration velocities (V n) of the valence states relative to that of groundwater, in the concerned area, clarified that Np(V) is the most mobile species and their transport rates are highly accelerated by the presence of humic acid. Also, a radionuclide dispersion model was applied to elucidate the migration behavior of these radioactive species in the selected site and to quantitatively predict their concentrations at different distances in both x and z directions over long time scales.

Notes: The extraction of Np(IV) and HNO3 from aqueous solutions containing only this acid (1-10 M) has been studied with solutions of triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) in carbon tetrachloride, benzene and chloroform. The species TPPO · HNO3 and Np(NO3)4 · 2TPPO are the most predominently extracted species; there is also experimental evidence for Np(NO3)4 · TPPO.An equilibrium “constant” of 0.7 is calculated for the extraction of HNO3 with solutions of the reagent in CCl4. This value is found to fit also the measurements on TPPO in C6H6. The position of the solvent CHCl3 is reversed, compared with the extraction of the acid and Np(IV) by the solvents CCl4 and C6H6, respectively.

Notes: The extraction behaviour of HNO3 and Np(IV) from aqueous nitrate solutions with some aliphatic alcohols and ketones using hexane, carbon tetrachloride, benzene and chloroform as diluents was studied. The acid concentration in the aqueous phase varied from 0.25 to 10 M and that of the extractant in the organic phase varied from 0.5 M to the undiluted fraction. In the alcohol systems, solutions of the same alcohol in the diluents CCl4 and CHCl3 showed similar capacity for acid extraction, and also in the same diluents, solutions of diisopropyl and diisobutyl alcohol showed similar capacity for extraction. Extraction of Np(IV) with the different ketones and alcohols used follow the same pattern as HNO3.
