Notes: Abstract The coupling of chloramphenicol on Biozan R (Hercules) by activation with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide was studied. The esterification is influenced by the chloramphenicol/dicyclohexylcarbodiimide ratio, concentration of the reactants and reaction time. The microbial tests performed with products of different chloramphenicol contents attest their antimicrobial activity and their possible use, especially in ophtalmology.

Notes: Abstract In the present paper the immobilization of invertase and amyloglucosidase on Biozan R with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide as a catalyst is studied. The influence of some factors on the coupling reaction (duration, enzyme/support and catalyst/support ratios) as well on the acitvity of the coupled enzyme in followed. For both systems under study the value of the Michaelis-Menten constant is higher for the coupled enzyme than for the free one.

Notes: Abstract Xanthan and its crosslinked beads have many biomedical applications. Xanthan has been reticulated with epichlorohydrin, thus becoming a hydrogel with a swelling ratio in the range 1–10 and having a solvent content of 80–90%. Through its diffusion from alcohol/water mixture (5/1–5/4,v/v) of various concentrations, isosorbide dinitrate has been inserted into the hydrogel. The content of isosorbide dinitrate in the hydrogel varies in the range 40–150 mg/g. The drug is released according to “zero-order” kinetics at a constant rate of 1.5 μg/h, for a duration of 9 h.

Notes: Summary Poly(methylmethacrylate-b-styrene) and poly(methylmetha-crylate-b-acrylonitrile) block copolymers are synthesized by means of the 4,4′-azo-bis-(4-cynovaleryl)-benzoyldiperoxide. In the first stage a polymethylme-thacrylate prepolymer is synthesized using the above mentioned initiator. The prepolymer containing peroxide end groups is employed in the second stage for the block copolymerization of styrene or acrylonitrile. The block copolymer structure was elucidated by means of IR and NMR spectral measurements.

Description / Table of Contents: Verschiedene Enzyme (α-Amylase, Amyloglucosidase) und Arzneistoffe (Procain, 7-Amino-Cephalosporansäure, Sulfatiasol, Ampicillin, Chloramphenicol) wurden covalent an Cellulosederivate und Biozan R gebunden, um biologisch aktive Verbindungen zu erhalten.
