A Contribution to the Structure of Thionyl Chloride and Selenium OxychlorideThe Raman spectra of the gaseous, liquid and solid oxychlorides SOCl2 and SeOCl2 as well as of a CCl4 solution have been studied. The spectra indicate associated molecules in the liquid state and relatively strong intermolecular interactions in the solid. Monomeric molecules have been found in the vapour and in dilute solutions. Raman spectra of the addition compounds SeOCl2 · SbCl5 and 2 SeOCl2 · SnCl4 are in agreement with the known crystal structures.

Die Oxidchloride SOCl2 und SeOCl2 wurden in allen Aggregatzuständen und in CCl4-Lösungen ramanspektroskopisch untersucht. Aus den Spektren geht hervor, daß im flüssigen Zustand assoziierte Molekeln vorhanden sind und im Feststoff starke intermolekulare Wechselwirkungen auftreten. Monomere Molekeln werden in der Gasphase und in verdünnten Lösungen gefunden. Ramanspektren der Addukte SeOCl2 · SbCl5 und 2 SeOCl2 · SnCl4 sind mit den bekannten Kristallstrukturen im Einklang.
