Notes: Abnormal phenomenons such as refractions and diffractions are more readily seen on cross-sections produced in magnetic processing offices than on single records. The result is that the understanding of these phenomenons intervenes more and more in the interpretation of the data. Our purpose is to proceed here to a restatement of the geometric properties related to these phenomenons and to make an attempt to distinguish between what is useful for the interpretation and what is not.To begin with we shall call our attention on diffractions and refractions over faults permitting to recognize the faults or to precise them, then on diffractions caused by irregularities of the surface forming the common boundary of heterogeneous media (more or less deep erosion surface, basement rock, …). The following phenomenons are classified as parasites:〈list xml:id="l1" style="custom"〉1) refractions following very shallow horizons, mostly related to topographic accidents,2) diffractions on the upward path caused by shallow faults,3) diffractions in the horizontal plane, found either in marine seismic or in case of heterogeneities “wrapt up” inside of an homogeneous overthrust.

Notes: Cancelling of multiple reflections by CDP stacking is generally incomplete. When the order of coverage is low, an improvement may be obtained by the use of special filters (e.g. Schneider et al: Geophysics 1965; D'Hoeraene: Geophysics 1966). But when the order of coverage is high, the efficiency of these filters is less obvious. On the other hand, the higher the order of coverage, the higher the efficiency in the solution presented.Schematically, our method includes three steps:Firstly: Searching for the multiple reflections. For this purpose Move Out corrections corresponding to the multiples are applied to each individual record, then CDP stacking is carried out.Secondly: Cleaning up of the individual records.“Decorrections” are firstly applied, then multiples are subtracted. For this, subtraction is weighed versus the energy of the multiples, that is to say versus the correlation between the original record and the pure multiple reflections.Thirdly: Normal processing with the cleaned records which have been obtained. The different steps of this method are illustrated with the help of theoretical examples. Its efficiency improvement in regard to normal CDP stacking is then demonstrated by means of true examples.

Notes: From the wealth of information which can be deduced from VSP, the information most directly comparable to well logs is considered: P-wave and S-wave interval velocity, acoustic impedance, and the velocity ratio γ=Vs/Vp. This information not only allows better interpretation of surface seismic sections but also improves processing. For these results to be usable a number of precautions must be taken during acquisition and processing; the sampling in depth should be chosen in such a way that aliasing phenomena do not unnecessarily limit the spectra during the separation of upwards and downwards travelling waves. True amplitudes should be respected and checked by recording of signatures, and the interference of upwards and downwards travelling waves should be taken into account for the picking of first arrivals. The different steps in processing and the combination of results in the interpretation of surface seismic results are described with actual records.

Notes: In the context of Franco-Soviet cooperation, a seismic survey was carried out on the Romashkino reservoir in the Tatar Republic (USSR). This survey involved evaluating azimuthal anisotropy parameters from S-wave VSPs recorded on three wells and from a surface seismic line, the latter in order to monitor any lateral variations in the parameters. In this paper we present results which indicate in particular that for the two wells in which oil production has been established, the anisotropy rate appears to be proportional to production figures. This seems to confirm the hypothesis that variations in production are asociated with the presence of subvertical fractures which cause S-wave birefringence. By processing the reflected converted P-S waves of a surface seismic line, it is possible to monitor lateral variations in the anisotropy parameters and well ties effectively confirm differences revealed by the S-wave VSP data.

Notes: Abstract AFLP™ is a novel high-resolution fingerprinting method that can be used to delineate intraspecific relationships among a large variety of fungi and plants. We demonstrate that with the appropriate technical modifications, ethidium bromide staining and non-denaturing polyacryalmide minigels can be an inexpensive and time saving alternative for screening DNA samples for suitable AFLP primer pairs. Furthermore, the recovery of ethidium bromide stained polymorphic DNA fragments is not as tedious as the recovery of isotopic DNA fragments. Abbreviations: EDTA, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid; BSA, bovine serum albumin.
