As a first step in the conformational analysis of the cation-binding reactions of the carboxylic ionophore narasin A, 1H NMR spectra of narasin A in its apo and H+ -, K+ - and Na+ -bound forms in CD3OD were assigned. In addition, new assignments for the spectrum of H+ -narasin A in CDCl3 were obtained. Two dimensional 1H-1H chemical shift correlation, one-dimensional nuclear Overhauser effect and decoupling difference techniques were used to determine the chemical shifts and 1H—1H coupling constants.
