Notes: Abstract Electromagnetic transition rates and logft values were calculated for transitions between positive-parity states in theA=24−28 mass region. The wave functions used were taken from a previous paper. In general we found satisfactory agreement with experiment. In order to have a measure of the stability of the results against changes in the Hamiltonian a method was developed for assigning errors to calculated transition properties. The renormalized single-particle matrix elements of theE2 andM 1 transition operators were determined in a phenomenological way. To this end use was made of the errors just mentioned. It was found that good agreement was obtained with bare-nucleonM 1 singleparticle matrix elements and a state independent effective isoscalar charge for theE 2 operator. Predictions for static moments are given.

Notes: Abstract The doubly even isotopes of Zn and Ge have been investigated in a model in which two quasiparticle excitations, constructed in a (0f 7/2), 1p 3/2, 0f 5/2, 1P 1/2, 0g 9/2 configuration space, are coupled with quadrupole vibrations of the core, viz.40Ca or56Ni. The 0f 7/2 orbit is excluded in case of a56Ni core. The spectra, except for low-lying excited 0+ states, could be reproduced reasonably well. The calculatedE2 strengths and quadrupole moments are in fair agreement with experiment.

Notes: Abstract The energy spectra of theN=81 nuclei have been calculated by coupling the neutron single-hole motion to the quadrupole vibrations of the nuclear surface. The wave functions are used to calculateM1 andE2 moments. Gamma-ray branching ratios are extensively discussed and compared with the many experimental data on 54 135 Xe81, 58 139 Ce81 and 60 141 Nd81. Also spectroscopic factors for (p,d) reactions have been calculated and compared to experimental single-neutron pick-up reactions. The excitation energy and the lifetime of the isomeric stateπ π, decaying by anM4 transition, are studied, in particular in their dependence on the number of extra protons. The behaviour of the centroid of the neutron single-hole energies as a function of the number of extra protons is calculated with a delta force for the neutron-proton interaction.

Notes: Abstract Based on the rotationally invariant core model a simple expression is derived which relates the electric quadrupole moments of quasi-rotational states of even-even nuclei to the excitation energies of the corresponding levels. This relationship is successfully tested on available experimental data. Also a comparison is made with other simple approaches for transitional quadrupole moments deduced from intraband B(E2) values.

Notes: Abstract The second moment of the strength distribution of single-hole states in finite nuclei is discussed. Theoretical estimates for the second moment of single-hole states near the top of the Fermi sea appear to be larger than experimental values that can be derived from data on knock-out reactions; this indicates that experimentally a part of the single-hole strength has not been observed.

Notes: Abstract In this paper the distribution of electromagnetic transition amplitudes 〈W′∥O∥W〉 is described in terms of fluctuations about a gaussian secular variation (as a function of initial and final energies) according to the Porter-Thomas assumption. Explicit formulas are derived both for the case (i) that∑ w ′¦〈W′∥O∥W〉¦2 is replaced by its local average and (ii) that∑ W ′¦〈W′∥O∥W〉¦2 is treated as a stochastic variable showing a χ d 2 -distribution. The resulting distribution function appears to possess a monomial tail. Comparisons with shell-model results are made.

Notes: Abstract The spectral function for the removal of l=0 protons in12C is calculated within the framework of the shell model. The techniques used in the calculation exploit, in a novel fashion, certain features of the Lanczos method used in obtaining energies and wave-functions. G ross and fine details of the resulting strength distributions are compared against the results from12C(e, e′p)11B experiments.

Notes: Abstract Two-body exchange currents in the noninteracting relativistic Fermi gas model are taken into account with special emphasis put on the role of the delta-isobar to reproduce the transverse response function in the dip region. Due to a resonance behaviour relativistic two-body isobar currents are found to be important for a comparison with the experimental data. Real-pion production is studied within the same framework and the importance and physical implications of the energy dependence of the delta-isobar decay width are stressed. The contents of these lectures have been/will be published in M.J. Dekker, P.J. Brussaard, and J.A. Tjon: Phys. Rev. C49 (1994) 2650–2670 and Phys. Rev. C (1995).
