Description: Introduction: The aim of this work is to establish an epidemiological approach of aplastic anemia (AA) in Algeria, to identify the different therapeutic strategy and the patients outcomes. Material and methods: This is a retrospective multi-center epidemiological study over 10 years (from 01 January 2007 to 31 December 2016). The source of information is represented by the medical files and the consultation sheets. The collection of information is ensured by the fact sheets established and distributed to the departments Hematology and Pediatrics at the national level. Results: A total of 844 cards were received, concerning 844 patients including 746 adults and 94 children. The overall incidence of the disease is 0.21, it varies from 0.16 to 0.28 / 100000 inhabitants / year depending on the year. The average age is 34.7 years with extremes ranging from 1 month to 91 years, the sex ratio (M / F) is 1 (420/424). In adults there is a slight male predominance: sex ratio is 1.11 (421/378). AA is acquired in 806 patients (95.4%) and congenital in 38 patients (4.6%). Among the acquired AA: idiopathic = 694 (86.1%), toxic = 18 (2.23%), viral: 17 (2.1%): HBV = 13, HCV = 3, HIV = 1, drug = 13 (1.6%), gestational = 9, (1.1%), hematopoietic tuberculosis = 1. The presence of an HPN clone in 55 out of 261 patients studied was 21%, associated with a dysimmunitary disease = 5. In congenital AM, Fanconi anemia = 35, Blackfand-Diamond = 2, congenital dyskeratosis = 1. The prognostic classification according to the Camitta criteria and the EBMT criterion: out of 540 evaluable records found: very severe = 83 (15.3%), severe = 291 (53.8%), moderate = 166 (30.7%). CsA-SAL reference immunosuppressive therapy was instituted in only 49 pts (13.1%) with severe and very severe forms. It resulted in a hematologic response in 18 patients (36.5%), 15 patients died and 16 patients were probably lost to follow-up. Three hundred and twenty-seven pts (38.7%) received allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant at CPMC (n = 316) and EHU (n = 11); = 277), Fanconi anemia (n = 44), amgacaryocytosis in its aplastic form (n = 3), erythroblastopenia in aplastic form (n = 2), untagged constitutional medullary aplasia (n = 1). As of 31/12/2016: 344 pts are alive, 208 died, 194 lost sight of and 98 pts whose fate is not specified on the cards. Conclusion: AA is a rare , the incidence is 0.2 / 100000 inhabitants / year. It affects young adults with a slight male predominance in adults, idiopathic forms are in the foreground and severe forms predominat Disclosures No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Description: Aspects of the reproductive biology of the velvet belly, Etmopterus spinax are presented in this paper. The observed specimens were collected off Tunisian coasts and the coast of Languedoc (southern France), in sandy and/or muddy bottoms from 100 m to 400 m depth. The males were adult over 350 mm total length (TL). Females matured between 310 mm and 370 mm TL. The smallest adult female with ripe oocytes ready to be ovulated and the smallest gravid female were 380 mm and 400 mm TL respectively. All females over 400 mm TL were adults. The maximum size was 460 mm for both sexes. Gestation could be a minimum of one year, but it is hypothesised that it may be as much as two years. Vitellogenesis did not proceed in parallel with gestation. However, in a single pregnant female developing oocytes were observed. Vitellogenesis continued after parturition which occured generally in summer. Average TL and average weight of fully-developed fetuses were 126 mm and 6.03 g. A calculated chemical balance of development (CBD) based on mean dry-weights of fully-developed fetuses and ripe oocytes was 0.803. This low value is due to a degree of lecithotrophy in E. spinax; even if the mother role during gestation is not negligible. Fecundity ranged from five to nine newborn pups per brood. Ripe oocytes were more numerous in the left organs; generally embryos and fetuses were symmetrically distributed in each uterus, although in some specimens they were more numerous in the left uterus.

Description: During July 2017, eight specimens of the crab Portunus segnis (Forskål, 1775), infested by Chelonibia patula (Ranzani, 1818) were collected in the Gulf of Gabès (South-East of Tunisia). The barnacles were attached to the carapace and clamps of their hosts. This cosmopolitan barnacle species is reported for the first time, hosted by P. segnis in the Gulf of Gabès. The large sized crabs host more barnacles than small crabs. Males are more infested by barnacles than females.

Description: The sessile barnacles Balanomorpha included in the family Platylepadidae are obligatory symbionts of motile marine animals, with some species occurring solely on turtles, sea snakes, and fish. Stomatolepadine barnacles like Stephanolepas are characterized by nearly- to fully-encapsulating the shell in host tissue. This barnacle is currently known from turtles in the Pacific, Indian and North Atlantic Oceans and in the Mediterranean Sea. In that basin S.muricata has been reported only in the Spanish and Italian waters and in the South of Tunisia. In this note, we document the first record of S. muricata in the bay of Monastir (eastern coast of Tunisia) on a loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta.

Description: We register here the first record of the Rubber-lip grunt Plectorhinchus mediterraneus (Guichenot 1850) (family: Haemulidae) in central Tunisian water. This thermophilic Atlanto-Mediterranean species, occurring mainly in the Eastern tropical Atlantic and recorded also in the west Mediterranean basin and in the Adriatic Sea was found for the first time in the central east coast of Tunisia (Salakta). The two specimen captured, both adult male measuring respectively 36 and 42 cm total length, was taken with gillnet in April 2011. The present paper reports this new record which might indicate a recent establishment in the area. Furthermore it gives a short description of the specimens and comments on its distribution in the Mediterranean Sea.

Description: A survey of the bottom and pelagic longlines fisheries targeting groupers and swordfish was performed in the Gulf of Gabès in 2016 and 2017 in order to evaluate the elasmobranch catches. In the benthic longline fishery, the elasmobranchs represented about 50 % of the total catch (Batoids 25,6%, Sharks 24,5%) and the main species were the blackchin guitarfish (Glaucostegus cemiculus) and the hound sharks (Mustelus spp.). In the pelagic longline fishery, the elasmobranchs represented 91% of the total catches (Batoids 2,24%, Sharks 89,57%), and the main species was the sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus) with 82,5% of the total catch. The frequency distributions of TL showed that the catches of theses species were mostly composed of juveniles, and few mature specimens, including some gravid females.
