Notes: Abstract The hydrated rare earth orthophosphates LnPO4 ·xH2O (Ln=La-Dy) contain zeolitic water in the structural channels, which is released reversibly up to 300°. The thermal stabilities of the hydrates depend upon the nature of the Ln atom. The dehydration temperature decreases with decreasing ionic radiusr of Ln3+, according to the general equationθ=(r−a)/b (whereθ is the DSC and/or DTG dehydration peak temperature, anda andb are empirical constants depending on the experimental conditions). The contracting-area rate equation was valid for linearization of the isothermalα vs. time plots in the rangeα ∈ 〈0; 0.65〉. Kinetic values ofE, A, ΔH + and ΔS+ were calculated and the kinetic stabilities of the hydrates are discussed.

Notes: Summary 1. The introduction of 10 % of CaF2 displaces the boundaries of the primary crystallization fields of the phases in the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2. 2. It was confirmed that mullite has a congruent melting point. 3. The addition of 10% of CaF2 lowered the liquidus temperatures by 100−120°. 4. The boundaries of the layer formation in the system CaO-Al2O3 −SiO2-CaF2 were determined.

Notes: Summary 1. A study of the binary system La2O3-SiO2 made it possible to construct the phase diagram. 2. The compositions and temperatures of the invariant points were determined. 3. The compound 2La2O3·3SiO2, which is lanthanum orthosilicate, La4O(SiO4 3, was synthesized and investigated. 4. The boundaries of the layer-formation region, its upper critical point, and the coexistence temperature of the crystalline phase (SiO2) and the two liquids (glasses) were established.

Notes: Summary 1. On the basis of study of the ternary system CaO-BaO-SiO2 its phase diagram was constructed. 2. The phase diagram consists of twelve stability fields of different phases. 3. The compositions and temperatures at the invariant points were determined. 4. The limits and liquidus temperatures were determined for the field of solid solutions of orthosilicates. 5. The limits of the region of layer-separatiun and its upper critical point were established, as also was the temperature for the coexistence of a crystalline phase (SiO2) and two liquids.

Notes: Summary 1. Lanthanum silicate 2La2O3·3SiO2 was synthesized; it melts congruently at 2020”. The mean refractive index of crystals of this compound is 1.90. 2. Lanthanum silicate is characterized by hexagonal syngony. The parameters of its elementary cell were determined. 3. The elementary cell contains two 2La2O3· 3SiO2 molecules. The pycnometric density of the compound is 5.31 g/cm3; the density calculated from the x-ray data is 5.303 g/cm3. 4. It is probable that lanthanum silicate belongs to the olivine group and is lanthanum orthosilicate La4(SiO4)3.

Notes: Summary An investigation of vibrational spectra of europium pyrosilicate with small additions of other rare earth metals and binary systems (R, R′)2Si2O7 confirms the assumption as to the change in the coordination state of cations and the reason for the existence of three structural types of rare earth metal pyrosilicates.

Notes: Conclusions 1. A study of the IR spectra of rare earth pyrogermanates permits the establishment of the existence of three structural types of these compounds. The shift of the boundaries of stability of each of the structural types, in comparison with pyrosilicates, is due to an increase in the distance between the oxygen atoms in the germanate tetrahedron. 2. As we pass from types I to II and III of the rare earth pyrogermanates (i.e., in the series La2Ge2O7 → Lu2Ge2O7), there is an increase in the valence angle GeOGe in the anion Ge2O7, all the way to 180
