Notizen:
Summary Sodium hypophosphate, Na2H2P2O6 · 6H2O, prepared by oxidation of red phosphorus, e.g. with sodium chlorite NaClO2, is suitable to precipitate U4+ quantitatively at pH 1.5 to −0.5 (HCl or H2SO4 preferably), if the concentration of U4+ ranges above 5 · 10−3 moles per liter and that of phosphoric acid below 5% by weight. Only Ti4+, Zr4+, Hf4+, and Th4+ are precipitated under these conditions, besides U4+. Uranium can be determined as uranium(IV) hypophosphate (trihydrate) UP2O6 · 3H2O (gravimetric factor 0.529) or as uranium(IV) pyrophosphate UP2O7 (gr. f. 0.578) after drying at 110°C or igniting (1000°C) in a furnace, respectively. In either case the method gives values easily reproducible within ±2%. Reclaiming of uranium(IV), e.g. from aqueous waste solutions, can also be effected by precipitation as hypophosphate.
