Notes:
A theory for free surface flow using variable geometry finite elements is numerically modelled using isoparametric finite elements, for the first time. The resulting nonlinear equations are solved using the Newton-Raphson method. Because a functional is used as the basis of the formulation, the resulting equations are symmetrical. The realistic problem of flow over a Crump weir is solved for a large range of discharges.
