Conclusions 1. The compositions of the extractable complexes of uranyl nitrates with tetraarylmethylenediphosphine dioxides, containing various substituents in the meta- and para-positions of the phenyl rings, were determined by the method of dilution of the extraction reagent. 2. The effective constants of the extraction of uranyl nitrate by a number of tetrasubstituted methylenediphosphine dioxides were calculated. 3. The effective constants of extraction for complexes with three molecules of the extraction reagent are satisfactorily correlated with the Hammett constant and with the substituent constants σ ϕ . No such dependence is observed in the case of complexes containing two dioxide molecules. 4. A linear relationship is observed between the extraction capacity of tetraarylmethylenediphosphine dioxides and their basicity.
