Summary The flask method ofSchöniger on the semimicro scale with samples from 20–50 mg has been found excellent for the determination of heteroelements in organic materials and mixtures in commercial practice. Tested procedures are given for determining Cl, Br, S, P. On the basis of numerous routine analyses, the reproducibility of these methods has been statistically studied under the conditions of industrial practice. The standard deviations for the determination of Cl and Br were found to be almost independent of the content of the sample, while they increased with rising content in the case of S and P. The error of the mean value of a duplicate determination in all four cases remained within the limit ± 0,3% absolute with a certainty of 95%. Thus the methods satisfy the demands of industry in most cases. Suitable tolerance procedures for supervising the methods and analytical findings are advised for the analytical practice. The study shows that without additional experimental expenditure it is possible to obtain statistically assured bases for the appraisal of analytical methods and findings from the routine analyses of an industrial laboratory.
