    Notizen: A taxonomy of corporate governance structures based on equity and debt financial interest is offered as an alternative to the conventional emphasis on ownership concentration. Hypotheses on the association between the proposed governance structures and the strategic variable of diversification are formulated and tested on a sample of 73 large Swedish corporations. The theory explains significantly a tiny bit of the variance in diversification, something the conventional theory limited to ownership structure considerations was unable to do.

    Notizen: Illustrates how strategic continuous improvement (CI) capabilities were developed in three Swedish manufacturing companies that have implemented the Balanced Scorecard (BSC). A multiple case study was conducted; each company followed a unique team-based CI strategy. Shows how the use of BSC was adapted to the specific characteristics that each of the CI strategies entail. Furthermore, shows that it could be difficult to sustain the capability that was developed. However, also finds that certain mechanisms in the management control system, as well as the presence of an advanced work organisation, may help in sustaining the strategic CI capability.

    Notizen: Abstract Using water balance computations, the behavior of different kinds of lakes is discussed. Simple analytical expressions relating water level to hydrological conditions and lake bathymetry are given. The importance of knowing the river basin area when analyzing lake levels is stressed. A conceptual rainfall-runoff model including lake routing is used to simulate runoff and lake levels and to compute quasi-steady state conditions and long-term transient situations. It is suggested that models can be used to construct curves relating lake levels to precipitation and lake evaporation. By comparing with paleo-lake levels, the annual precipitation related to these levels can be found, provided information is available about the seasonal distribution of the precipitation.

    Notizen: Abstract The finite element model was successfully applied to predict the Pb-210 and total extractable fatty acid concentrations at different depths in two sediment cores from Lake Ontario by using different transport parameters. The transport parameters were computed from Pb-210 data. These parameters were used to simulate the total extractable fatty acid concentrations at different depths. The computed results were compared with observed data and results were compared by statistical methods. Good agreement was achieved though improved results were observed in a two layer model accounting for bioturbation in the upper 4–6 cm of sediment. By modifying this model is useful to apply the contaminant transport in lake sediments, industrial waste disposal ponds, and fish ponds with different geological, physical, chemical and biological parameters at different depths.

    Notizen: Abstract Mixing in ice covered lakes is caused by through-flow currents, oscillations of the ice cover and by convective currents induced by heat flow from the sediments or by solar radiation penetrating the ice. Mainly from studies in Swedish lakes, current velocities and mixing coefficients are quantified for the different processes generating water movement. Seiche movement caused by wind induced oscillations of the ice cover is found to be most efficient for the horizontal mixing giving coefficients of the order 100 cm2 s−1. The lateral dispersion in through-flow currents can be determined using standard formulas, but the dispersion coefficient is 1–2 orders of magnitude less than that for oscillation induced mixing. Convective mixing due to heat flow from the sediments lasts through the winter but is a very slow process. Convection caused by penetration of solar radiation is more effective, but this process is usually of importance only during the last month prior to break-up of the ice-cover.
