Conclusions 1. Under conditions of a complex mountain relief the pioneer method of damming a river channel with one-sided narrowing of the gap is the best and most economical. 2. Closing of the gap on small and medium rivers by placing preliminarily stockpiled soil by powerful bulldozers or in combination with transporting of the soil by heavy-duty dump trucks makes it possible to increase the rate of filling by 2–5 times compared with the usual methods. 3. The high rate of filling (1000–1200 m3/h and more) of the layerwise fractionated soil and correct technology of closing the gap markedly reduce its erosion and evacuation by the flow.
