Metal Carbonyl Syntheses. XI. Transition Metal Methylene Complexes. XXVI. Reactivity of the Half-Sandwich Complex [η5-C5(CH3)5]Rh(CO)2 with Bronsted Acids, Halogens, and Trimethylamine OxideThe half-sandwich complex (η5-C5Me5)Rh(CO)2 (1 a) (Me = CH3) reacts with HBF4 in diethylether with rapid formation of the dinuclear μ-hydrido complex of composition [(μ-CO)(μ-H){(η5-C5Me5)Rh(CO)}2]BF4 (3 a), the deprotonation of which compound cleanly yields the structurally characterized neutral complex (μ-CO)[(η5-C5Me5)Rh(CO)]2 (4 a) (X-Ray diffraction). Thermal as well as photo-induced dismutation of 4 a leads to 1 a and the dinuclear complex [(η5-C5Me5)Rh(μ-CO)]2 (5 a) having a metal-metal „double“ bond. The latter compound is also accessible through simple reaction of 1 a with trimethylamine oxide in boiling acetone. The reactions of 5 a with carbon monoxide, diazomethane, and sulfur dioxide yielding 1 a, (μ-CH2)[(η5-C5Me5)Rh(CO)]2 (9 a), and (μ-SO2)[(η5-C5Me5)Rh(CO)]2 (9 b), respectively, are described as examples of the high reactivity of the unsaturated metal-metal bond of 5 a. The molecular structure of 9 a has been established by means of X-Ray diffraction techniques. The dibromo complexes 8a, b arise from direct bromination of the respective parent carbonyls 1 a and 1 b. The dinuclear, ionin complex of composition [(η5-C5Me5)-Rh2(CO)2Br3]Br (6) is formed upon reaction of 1 a with hydrogen bromide.
Notes:
