A Cauchy problem is formulated with data that describe the scattering of two vortices in a superconductor, and the following is proven: First, a unique global finite-energy solution exists. Second, the symmetry of the solution rules out all cases other than 0°, 90°, or 180° scattering. Third, a local analytic solution exists near the origin. The leading terms of this solution show that, of the three cases, 90° scattering is realized.
