Description: The magnesium (Mg) isotopic composition of river waters is mainly controlled by riverine Mg sources and geochemical processes. It is meaningful to characterize Mg isotope behavior for us in understanding chemical weathering and other geochemical processes, such as secondary mineral formation linked to environmental conditions. The Huanghe basin was chosen to investigate the behavior of Mg isotopes during river erosion in temperate-semiarid and arid climate. Dissolved Mg shows a wide range of d26Mg values, ranging from - 1.53 per mil to - 0.11 per mil, with most values being close to - 1.09 per mil. By comparison, most of the suspended loads are enriched in heavy Mg isotope, with d26Mg values ranging from - 2.00 per mil to - 0.62 per mil, which is controlled by mineralogy. The Mg isotopic composition in the upstream is mainly determined by the mixture between carbonate and silicate sources. When the Huanghe flows through the Loess Plateau, the dissolved Mg decreased due to the dissolution of easily dissoluble phases in loess, such as MgCl2 or MgSO4. Carbonates weathering and evaporites dissolution are the major controlling factor of the evolution of Mg isotopic composition in dissolved phase, though evaporation-related precipitation of secondary carbonates also influences the dissolved Mg isotope composition in some tributaries. The strong relationships between d26Mg and pH, temperature, and d18O suggest that the Mg isotope system bears significant information about the hydrogeochemical characteristics and climate conditions of the Huanghe basin.

Notes: Light rare-earth metals are not assumed to form compounds of the CaCu5-type structure with iron. When zirconium was not added, the Th2Zn17-type rhombohedral structure existed in the samples of nominal composition SmFe5 and SmFe7. Samples of nominal composition (Sm1−xZrx)Fe5 and (Sm0.65Zr0.35)Fey were studied by x-ray diffraction and thermomagnetic analyses. Thermomagnetic analyses showed the existence of a new phase besides Sm2Fe17. X-ray diffraction analyses showed the new phase has a CaCu5-type structure. Lattice parameters and Curie temperatures of these samples were measured.

Notes: Magnetization measurements have been made on (Y1−xSmx)2 Fe14B compounds with x≤0.1 over the temperature range from 1.5 K to room temperature. The c axis is the easy magnetization direction for pure Y2Fe14B at all temperatures, reflecting the anisotropy of the Fe sublattice. X-ray diffraction analyses on aligned powders indicate that all samples studied have easy magnetization direction parallel to the c axis at room temperature. The addition of Sm results in a decrease of anisotropy at room temperature. At low temperatures it induces a spin reorientation in all systems studied. A transition to planar anisotropy is observed for x=0.08 and 0.1.

Notes: Abstract Vascular tissues, xylem and phloem, are differentiated from meristematic cells, procambium, and vascular cambium. Auxin and cytokinin have been considered essential for vascular tissue differentiation; this is supported by recent molecular and genetic analyses. Xylogenesis has long been used as a model for study of cell differentiation, and many genes involved in late stages of tracheary element formation have been characterized. A number of mutants affecting vascular differentiation and pattern formation have been isolated in Arabidopsis. Studies of some of these mutants have suggested that vascular tissue organization within the bundles and vascular pattern formation at the organ level are regulated by positional information.

Notes: The program MIMS (measuring incommensurate modulated structures) has been written for the determination of structural parameters of incommensurate one-dimensionally modulated structures by an automatic search routine on four-dimensional Fourier maps. Test results show that the program works accurately and efficiently.

Notes: A novel multi-channel DNA fragment analysis system is presented, which is based onsingle PMT confocal fluorescence detection and optical scanning adopting an f-theta lens. Capillaryelectrophoresis experiments were executed in the system for DNA marker pBR322/Hae III. Signalwas processed with wavelet denoising. The system’s limit of detection (dsDNA with the probe ofThiazole Orange, TO) was evaluated to be 1.1841×10-11mol/L. Its working noise is much lowercompared with that based on mechanical scanning one, and the stability and detecting sensitivity ishigh. The system was expected to be applied to both capillary array and microchip electrophoresisdetection based on laser-induced fluorescence

Notes: In this study, biomemitic hydroxyapatite was prepared as a nano-sized powder from calciumnitrate tetrahydrate and diammonium hydrogen phosphate salts, but using the different contents of PVPmodified hydroxyapatite and synthetic body fluid (SBF) solutions as synthesis medium instead of purewater at 37.4C and pH of 7.4. SBF was prepared in accord with the chemical analysis of human bodyfluid, with ion concentrations nearly equal to those of the inorganic constituents of human blood plasma.Characterization and chemical analaysis of the synthesized biomemitic hydroxyapatite powders and purehydroxyapatite were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, andinductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. Rheological properties of HAP sol whichreflected the interaction of hydroxyapatite particles were measured by R/S rheometer. The results showedthat PVP evidently affected the stability and rheological properties of HAP sol, and PVP were based onthe different mechanism at different concentrations. PVP was operating as an interparticle bridgingreagent at low concentrations(0.5%), while it acted as an dispersant at high concentrations(2.0%). Thebiomemitic hydroxyapatite with the sizes of 10~30nm was spherical and poor crystalline, which wassynthesized in synthetic body fluid (SBF) by addition of 2.0% PVP

Notes: In this paper, the modulation transfer function with aberration of a multichannel laserinduced fluorescence analyzer is presented. Based on an f-theta lens, the confocal system was usedboth to transform the exciting laser and to collect the fluorescence emitted from sample. The totalMTF is the combination of that of both systems. A simple method for the numerical calculation ofthat was also given. From the calculating result we could conclude that the aberration had poorimpact on the MTF of a confocal multichannel fluorescence analyzer and the imaging performancewas uniform in the full field

Notes: Capillary array electrophoresis (CAE) is founded with the laser induced fluorescencedetection (LIFD) system. The same model as the detection system is simulated in Tracepro and thestray light caused by capillaries is analyzed. The stray light distribution of the observation surface isplotted when the laser scans the different sections of a capillary in the array. The results ofsimulation indicate that the stray light is strongest when scanning the inner center of a capillary anddecreases at edges; in two cases (50μm and 75μm inner diameter, ID) when the ID is larger, thestray light is stronger as a whole. Different ID of capillaries which affects the stray light isanalyzed; considering many factors, 50μm ID of capillary is appropriate. Based on the analysis ofstray light cross-talk by other capillaries in an array, the spacing between capillaries in an array issuggested more than 50μm which the stray light is steady-going and simple to operate. The resultscan be helpful for the mode of the laser scanning different capillaries in an array sequentially
