Notes: Summary The study of polystyrene (PS)/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) grafted copolymer/cyclohexanone or methylene chloride system compatibility both in concentrated solutions and solid state has been carried out by phase separation, viscosimetrical measurements and thermal behaviour. Having in view the obtained data it has been ascertained that the systems present different degrees of compatibility depending on the mixtures composition. At higher temperatures, the compatibility of the components is changed.

Notes: Abstract Kinetic aspects of the first step of thermoxidative decomposition, under dynamic conditions of heating, of some polysulfones have been studied. The dependence of the kinetic parameters on the heating rate and conversion degree has been established. The compensation effect and conversion function have also been discussed. Polysulfone decomposes by the breaking of the main chain, a process involving very high activation energy. Chemically modified polysulfones show the first step of thermoxidative decomposition at relatively low temperatures. This step corresponds to the elimination of functional side - groups for the bromomethylated polysulfone while in the case of the carboxylated polysolfone, the loss of the carboxyl group is probably accompanied by a crosslinking reaction.

Notes: Summary Influence of the temperature on the compatibility of the polystyrene / AB-g-S graft copolymer / cyclohexanone have been studied by light scattering and viscosity measurement. It was established that the compatibility of components is changed in the temperature range where the conformational transitions take place.

Notes: Summary The thermal stability of some model compounds for polyvinylchloride with different types of structural defects was studied. The determinations were carried out in thermal dynamical conditions using the conductometric detection of the evolved hydrogen chloride and thermogravimetrical methods. The kinetic parameters corresponding to the first stages of dehydrochlorination reaction were discussed comparatively. The following thermal stability order was obtained: macromodels withHT 〉 macromodels with ClT 〉 macromodels with ClA.

Notes: Summary Although poly (vinyl-chloride) — PVC — and poly (vinyl-alcohol) — PVA —mixtures are used in practice for coatings, containers, fibers, few studies are encounterd concerning their compatibility (7, 8). This paper establishes both the optimum compatibility ratio and the thermal behaviour of the mixtures. The compatibility study in solid state was realised using the methodes: optical microscopy, thermogravimetry, DSC, inverse gaschromatography and IR spectroscopy.

Notes: Summary Are presented some aspects of the non-isothermal kinetics of the thermoxidative decomposition of poly(methylmethacrylate), poly(vinylchloride), poly(vinylacetate) and poly(vinylalcohol). Both the apparent activation energies and the pre-exponential factor depend on conversion and exhibit a pseudo-compensation effect.

Description / Table of Contents: The apparent kinetic parameters of the thermal and the thermal and thermooxidative degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) for non-isothermal conditions were evaluated. The dependence of these parameters on the heating rate, the mean molecular weight, and the degree of conversion was also established. It is shown that the degradation in nitrogen probably occurs by a short chain mechanism, while the degradation in air is more complex. In the latter case, the exothermic character of the DTA-curves suggests that the chain degradation reaction is overlapped by oxidation processes.

Notes: The thermoxidative behavior of atactic and isotactic polypropylene under dynamical thermoxidative conditions has been studied. It has been established that, with the increase of the heating rate, the development of the oxidative processes are diminished and consequently a modification in the reaction mechanism takes place. One can notice at the same time that the oxidative processes are more intense in the case of the atactic polymer. The 5-15°C/min heating rates determine significant differences between the thermal behavior of the samples, permitting the elaboration of the standard curves useful in fast determination of the atactic content of the industrial products by routine analysis.

Notes: The thermal decomposition of vinyl alcohol/vinyl acetate copolymers have been studied at p = 10-2-10-4 Torr and T = 0-600°C. The decomposition products (solids, liquids, and gases) have been characterized by infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy, gas chromatography, vapor pressure osmometry, and elemental analysis. It has been ascertained on the basis of the obtained data that the decomposition mechanism of the vinyl alcohol/vinyl acetate copolymers depends on the chemical composition and sequence distribution of comonomers.
