Abstract. Isozyme patterns (HK, LDH, IDH, MDH, G6PDH) coming from the liver, white muscle and eye tissues of five yellow and five silver eels, Anguilla anguilla L., have been investigated and compared. Yellow and silver eel isoenzyme patterns are generally not different, with the exception of changes concerning the intensity of the first band in the liver HK and the distribution and intensity of the three bands in the eye IDH. The pattern of these two enzymes is weakly modified due to the metamorphosis from the yellow to the silver stage, probably affected by gonadal maturation and environmental factors.
