Notes:
: We prove that, for every integer n≥ 2, there is a metrizable group topology Un for the additive group Rn such that Un is strictly weaker than the usual topology but every straight line in Rn inherits the usual topology from Un. The topology Un is intrinsically a “non-product” topology for Un in the sense that, no matter how one decomposes Rn as a product of n copies of R, Un will not be the product of the topologies that it induces on these factors.
