Description: The correlation coefficient (R2) for Jos (cultured, Clarias anguillaris was 0.8367 while the coefficient of b was 3.1046. The correlation coefficient (R2) for Jos (wild) showed 0.7785 while the coefficient b was 3.4779. The correlation coefficient (R2) for Yola (wild) revealed 0.8637 and the coefficient of b was 2.4785. The results showed that there was correlation of length and weight in all the samples though Jos (cultured and wild) had positive allometric growth while Yola (wild) had negative allometric growth.

Description: Freshly caught mud catfish (Clarias anguillaris) and Tilapia (Oreochromis niloficus) collected from lake Geriyo in Adamawa state were smoked using different Kilns in order to evaluate the efficiency of the Smoking Kilns. The products from Federal university of Technology, Yola (FUTY) Improved Processor (FIP) were of better quality than the Traditional Smoking Drum (TSD). The use of these two processors revealed the profitability to fisher folks. marketers and fish farmers in the utilization of the FIP compared to the TSD as losses incurred was minimal. The qualities of the smoked Clarias anguillaris and Oreochromis niloticus were determined from their various peroxide values obtained after a 28 days storage period. The physi-cochemical parameters of the smoked samples were obtained. Products from FIP were of better quality than the TSD.

Description: This study entailed an economic analysis of smoked fish marketing in Adamawa State. Primary data were collected with the aid of well structured questionnaires from marketers in 10 major fish markets in local government areas of Adamawa State. Findings from the study revealed that 72% of the fish sellers were females, middle aged and (75%) were married. The results also indicated that 43% of the people involved in fish marketing had no formal education, 22% had primary six education and below while only 4% had post secondary education. Eighty-seven per cent of the fish sellers are engaged in full time smoking and marketing as their major occupation. The commonest fish in the surveyed markets include catfish, tilapia, snake head and mackerel. Personal savings formed the main capital invested on the business. The study revealed that smoked fish marketing in the study area is highly profitable with an average gross margin of N25,467 per marketer and a return to variable cost of N2.85. The constraints to fish marketing are, highlighted in the paper. It is recommended that soft loan be given to fish marketers to engage fish production through sustainable aquaculture

Description: A review of hybridization of some catfishes shows that catfish hybridization among other aspects of biotechnology has continued to raise interest among researchers of various disciplines such as fish biologists, geneticists, aquaculturists, molecular biologists, nutrion scientists and so on. The studies so far reported were from seasoned researchers from several works of life and disciplines who have direct or indirect interest in fish hybridization (especially catfishes). It could be thus, concluded that though there is a dearth in literary work on catfish hybridization considering their numbers and diversities. However, several interesting works can be found across continents (especially Africa, Asia, and North America) that shows that catfish hybridization holds a very high potential for the future. Better catfish hybrid is equivalent to a better catfish aquaculture as well as it contribution to global food security.
