Abstract The dependence of the resistivity of 2D electrons with Landau level filling factor ν=1/2 in a zero magnetic field is studied experimentally as a function of the carrier density. It is found that the ratio of the resistivity for B=0 and ν=1/2 is a linear function of the carrier density, as predicted by a theory based on the scattering of composite fermions by spatial fluctuations of the effective static magnetic field.
