    Notes: Most firms have traditionally offered one level of logistics service toall customers. This often results in some customer groups receiving moreservice than necessary, while other groups receive less service thannecessary. The emerging concept of logistical segmentation suggests thatcompanies can structure their logistical offerings to meet the needs andrequirements of different customer groups. Uses the "nested" approachfrom industrial marketing to illustrate an application of logisticalsegmentation.     Notes: Discusses the results from an empirical study that investigated potential career frustrations and concerns of women in distribution, defined as female marketing and logistics professionals. In general, both groups of respondents have some reservations about career opportunities in their respective fields. Moreover, perceptions about career opportunities appear to be influenced by personal demographic characteristics such as education and managerial status.     Notes: Withlogistics increasingly adopting a strategic orientation in many firms, senior-levellogisticians must possess certain skills in order to successfully manage the logistics function.This article argues that the contemporary senior-level logistics manager needs to beproficient in three categories namely: business, logistics and management skills. Thepurpose of this research is to report the results of a survey of US logistics managers designedto assess the importance of business, logistics, and management skills. Management skills emergedas the most important of the three, followed by logistics and business skills.     Notes: Despite the increased importance and corporate visibility of logistics - and its concomitant opportunities - the demand for college educated entry-level logisticians continues to greatly exceed their supply. The current study, which responds to this persistent shortfall of talented students, was designed to investigate three primary issues: student familiarity with logistics vis-à-vis other business disciplines; student perceptions of logistics in terms of academic and career issues; and the potential impact of promoting the value of logistics in a "principles of marketing" course. The findings suggest that students are relatively unfamiliar with logistics as a career choice and have a distinct level of neutrality towards many of the key "selling" points of the discipline. However, the findings also suggest that a focus on promoting the value of logistics in a "principles of marketing" course can have a significant impact on these perceptions. The study concludes with a discussion of the implications of these findings for various logistics constituencies along with suggestions for future research.

    Notes: Purpose - This paper provides a comparison of users and providers of third-party logistics (3PL) services with respect to relationship marketing elements, such as trust and communication, as well as relationship marketing outcomes, such as retention and recovery. Design/methodology/approach - Constructs for the relationship marketing elements and outcomes were derived from the extant literature and modified to reflect the nature of 3PL arrangements. The relevant data were collected from separate, but consistent, mail surveys that were sent to users of 3PL services as well as providers of 3PL services. Findings - The results indicate statistically significant differences between 3PL users and providers across eight of nine relationship marketing elements, with the lone non-significant comparison involving the communication construct. There are also statistically significant differences between 3PL users and providers for each of the four relationship marketing outcomes. Research limitations - Although the present study utilized previously validated relationship marketing elements and outcomes, future research could examine other relationship marketing elements and outcomes. Future research could also investigate relationship marketing issues through dyads/matched pairs of 3PL users and providers. Originality/value - This manuscript examines 3PL with respect to theories and/or frameworks that comes from outside the logistics discipline, an approach advocated by Stock. Moreover, the paper adds to Moore's 3PL/relationship marketing research by investigating relationship elements and outcomes. The current paper adds to the rather limited literature that incorporates both 3PL user and provider perspectives.
