    Description: In dieser Arbeit wurde der Taylor-Couette Reaktor hinsichtlich seiner Anwendbarkeit im kontinuierlichen Polymerherstellungsprozess des PMMA grundlegend charakterisiert. Es wurde der Einfluss der Vermischung auf ein polymerisierendes Reaktionssystem, bei dem es im kontinuierlichen Prozess zum Viskositätsanstieg kommt, untersucht. Die Variation der Prozessbedingungen und die Modellierung des Ablaufs der Polymerisationsreaktion stellen die Kernthemen dieser Arbeit dar.

    Notes: Two-and-one-half-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the multicomponent plasma sheet with the velocity curl term in the magnetic equation are represented. The simulation results can be summarized as follows: (1) There is an oscillation of the plasma sheet with the period on the order of 400 s (Pc 5 range); (2) the magnetic equator is a node of the magnetic field disturbance; (3) the magnetic energy integral varies antiphase with the internal energy integral; (4) disturbed waves have a propagating speed on the order of 10 km/s earthward; (5) the abundance of oxygen ions influences amplitude, period, and dissipation of the plasma sheet oscillation. It is suggested that the compressional Pc 5 waves, which are observed in the plasma sheet close to the magnetic equator, may be caused by the plasma sheet oscillation, or may be generated from the resonance of the plasma sheet oscillation with some Pc 5 perturbation waves coming from the outer magnetosphere. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

However, due to the lack of mathematical formalism, they may appear to be non-rigorous and even sometimes mysterious. The goal of this paper is threefold: to provide a general mathematical setting, to survey the most popular sample path methods including forward induction, backward induction and interchange arguments, and to illustrate our approach through the study of a number of classical scheduling and routing optimization problems arising in queueing theory.

    Notes: Abstract Provision of Quality‐of‐Service (QoS) guarantees is an important and challenging issue in the design of integrated‐services packet networks. Call admission control is an integral part of the challenge and is closely related to other aspects of networks such as service models, scheduling disciplines, traffic characterization and QoS specification. In this paper we provide a theoretical framework within which call admission control schemes with multiple statistical QoS guarantees can be constructed for the Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS) scheduling discipline. Using this framework, we present several admission control schemes for both session‐based and class‐based service models. The theoretical framework is based on recent results in the statistical analysis of the GPS scheduling discipline and the theory of effective bandwidths. Both optimal schemes and suboptimal schemes requiring less computational effort are studied under these service models. The QoS metric considered is loss probability.

    Notes: Abstract Transient extremal properties of some service disciplines are established in theG/GI/s queueing system for the minimization and maximization of the expectations of the Schur convex functions, convex symmetric functions and the sums of convex functions of the waiting times, response times, lag times and latenesses. When resequencing is required in the system, the FCFS and LCFS disciplines are shown to minimize and maximize, respectively, the expectations of any increasing functions of the end-to-end delays. All of these results are presented in terms of stochastic orderings. The paper concludes with extensions of the results to the stationary regime and to tandem as well as general queueing networks.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper we study the departure processes of two rate-control throttles: the token bank and the leaky bucket. Using sample path methods and the notion of majorization, we analyze the effect that parameters such as the token buffer capacity and token generation rate have on the vector of interdeparture times. In the transient case, we establish the monotonicity of the burst reduction in the sense of the majorization. In the case that the departure process converges in coupling to a stationary and ergodic process, the transient comparison results allow us to establish the monotonicity of the stationary interdeparture times in the sense of the convex ordering. Comparisons between the two flow control schemes are also established when appropriate.

    Notes: Abstract Consider a polling system withK≥1 queues and a single server that visits the queues in a cyclic order. The polling discipline in each queue is of general gated-type or exhaustive-type. We assume that in each queue the arrival times form a Poisson process, and that the service times, the walking times, as well as the set-up times form sequences of independent and identically distributed random variables. For such a system, we provide a sufficient condition under which the vector of queue lengths is stable. We treat several criteria for stability: the ergodicity of the process, the geometric ergodicity, and the geometric rate of convergence of the first moment. The ergodicity implies the weak convergence of station times, intervisit times and cycle times. Next, we show that the queue lengths, station times, intervisit times and cycle times are stochastically increasing in arrival rates, in service times, in walking times and in setup times. The stability conditions and the stochastic monotonicity results are extended to the polling systems with additional customer routing between the queues, as well as bulk and correlated arrivals. Finally, we prove that the mean cycle time, the mean intervisit time and the mean station times are invariant under general service disciplines and general stationary arrival and service processes.
