Notes: Describes the historical background to urban land policy in China. Since1979, policies of economic reform have been instituted. In the new"socialist market economy", incentive-based competition betweenenterprises has arisen and managers and workers now have interest andreturns more closely allied to profitability. Describes recentlegislation to consolidate the moves to reform the land market. Urbanland reform has provided a supply of land on to the market to establisha functioning property market. It has restrained land use inagriculture, diverting land to a higher, more profitable use.

Notes: Argues that although the development of the real estate market in China has been well documented, one of the most interesting, yet chaotic, issues in this market has not been fully covered. This is that of the problems and opportunities arising from the need for management of properties built. The supply of prime office buildings in the major cities in China has been unprecedented because of the strong demand from local and overseas companies. To preserve the investment value of the buildings, there is a great need for good management. Provides an overview of environmental management issues experienced in China. Discusses this in three sections: the existing environmental problems; future environmental problems and strategies for environmental protection.

Notes: The market-oriented competitive environment in electric utilities has forced many power plants to become more conscious of the role of maintenance management in enhancing their equipment performances and consequently improving the quality of their services. Good equipment maintenance practices can improve the reliability of the power system; maintenance has become the prominent management issue for electric utilities. In recent years, power plants have started using benchmarking to identify the best practices for enhancing their maintenance works. In this paper, a case on benchmarking for maintenance management in a large-scale power plant is analyzed. Benchmarking is used to search for optimum methods for maintenance management practices in order to improve the overall effectiveness of the operations and maintenance of the plant. By adopting the best practices appropriately, benchmarking could help plants to become more cost-effective in maintenance. However, for plants looking for breakthrough improvement in maintenance, on top of benchmarking, other means, i.e. intelligent decision support system (IDSS) for maintenance, are required as well.

Notes: The osteoinduction of Calcium Phosphate (CaP) had been proved and generally been investigated by in vivo implantation. However, the mechanism of the osteoinductivity was not clear and it was difficult to judge the osteoinductivity in vitro. In this study, Mouse C2C12 cell line, a kind of myoblast precursor cell, was employed to co-culture with CaP. The induction of cell differentiation by materials was tested by MTT method, fluorescence observation, especially the mRNA expression of Osteocalcin, Type I collagen and Fibronectin by RT-PCR. It was founded that C2C12 cells could be induced to expression osteocalcin when growth on the surface of the HA/TCP ceramics. At the same time, the ceramics with different composition and sintering temperature seemed to induce difference expression level of the related genes. The results proved that phase composition was one of the most important factors in the regulation of bone-related genes. This study provided a potential model to evaluate the osteoinductivity of CaP ceramics in vitro

Notes: In this paper, supposing the rockmass is an idealistic elastic object, the methods tocalculate I type and II type strength factors of the crack tip are obtained by analyzing the stress stateof the inner surface of a close crack in rockmass under compressive and shear stress and applyingcomplex variable function stress method and superposition principle. Furthermore, supposing thefriction coefficient, f , of the crack surface is a constant and the normal pressure, P(x) , on thecrack surface obeys to normal distribution, the propagation rules of a close crack under compressiveand shear stress are also deduced

Notes: A nano-grade hydroxyapatite/collagen composite was prepared by an in situ synthesis technique from calcium nitrate, diammoniun hydrogen phosphate, and a cowhide collagen sol at low temperature. XRD and TEM analyses of the composite indicated that crystals formed in the collagen fibril matrix were nanohydroxyapatite with low crystallinity. Biocompatibility of the composite was evaluated by in vitro cytotoxicity test and in vivo genotoxicity and sensitization test. No mutagenicactivity of the composite was observed in mouse micronucleus tests. No evidence of dermal sensitization of the composite was found in guinea pig maximization tests. The results from a filter diffusion test indicated that the composite did not induce a cytotoxic behavior. All these results suggest that the composite has excellent biocompatibility

Notes: In this paper, the development of cubic compressive strength of concrete with the age was studied first. Four kinds of concrete, which were made from the mixes by using 0%, 20%, 30% and 40% Composite Mineral Admixture (CMA) as the replacement of the cement for each kind of concrete, were used in the study. Test results showed that the concrete with 30% CMA had the best properties compared with others both under standard-curing condition and steam-curing condition. Furthermore, the normal concrete (without CMA ) and the high performance concrete (with 30% CMA) were chosen as the main materials in comparative tests to study the effect of curing conditions on the property of high performance concrete, such as the basic mechanical properties, the property against chloride penetration, and the property against carbonization. The results indicated that the curing temperature would increase the concrete strength in early age but not in long term. The curing condition would affect the property of concrete against carbonization but not the property of concrete against chloride penetration obviously

Notes: Abstract This paper is focused on the analysis of the intersection between the air-flow field around a piece of cloth and the motion of the cloth in order to animate realistically the cloth motion in the air flow. Two force models, based on aerodynamic theory, have been established to calculate the force distribution of the air flow on a cloth surface. The quasi-steady force model deals with the cases in which the free stream velocity of the relative air flow changes slightly or slowly, whereas the unsteady force model deals with unsteady air flows. The resulting force distributions are coupled with a cloth-deformation model based on structural dynamics to compute the displacement and deformation of cloth under these forces. This solution cycle is repeated and the time histories of the cloth motion can be obtained which form the basis of the computer animation of cloth motion in air flow. Animation results of the movement of a piece of curtain in free air under various air flow conditions are presented to compare the performances of the two force models.

Notes: The objective of this study was to develop an efficient method for the production ofbioactive bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2). A recombinant plasmid encoding mature human BMP-2 was transferred and expressed at a high level in E.coli. Most of the aimed proteins existed in inclusion bodies. The non-active recombinant human BMP-2 (rhBMP-2) monomer in inclusion bodies was refolded and simultaneously purified using hydroxyapatite (HA) chromatography. Afteroxidization of the monomer, the rhBMP-2 dimmer showed biological activity by the induction of alkaline phosphate activity in C2C12 cells. The refolding yield was about 30% and the purity was about 90% just by one chromatography process
