Description / Table of Contents:
The graft polymerization of methyl methacrylate on cellulose and silk was studied in the absence of initiators under different conditions. It was found that the polymerization could be initiated only in the presence of water. Grafto-copolymerization of methyl methacrylat and styrene or acrylonitrile was also carried out, and it was concluded from the composition curves of graft copolymerization, that the polymerization proceeded by radical mechanism. Together with the results in the presence of zinc chloride, it was assumed that the complex formation between cellulose or silk, methyl methacrylate and water is the first stage of the initiation.
Notes:
