Notizen: Abstract Knowiedge on community structure of North Sea meiofauna has greatly increased recently. A quasisynoptic picture of meiofauna densities and copepod community structure from 171 stations of the southern North Sea, sampled in April–May 1986, has been obtained during the North Sea Benthos Survey. Latitudinal patterns in meiofauna abundance and copepod weight, abundance and diversity exist in an area between 51°30′N and 58°30′N. Using TWINSPAN-classification five major groups of copepod species can be recognized which are related to sediment type, latitude and depth. The part of the meiofauna in total benthic energy flow, their role in the benthic food web and in biogeochemical cycles is discussed based on existing literature. There are still considerable gaps in knowledge and the field is not progressing rapidly.

    Thema: Biologie
Notizen: Abstract The monotypic genus Paraschizopera Wells, 1981 (ex Diosaccidae) is transferred to the Tetragonicipitidae on the basis of segmentation of antennary exopod and P2-P4 endopods, setation of P1 and overall similarity in mouthpart structure. Paraschizopera is the most primitive genus of the family and closely related to Diagoniceps Willey, 1930 which is redefined to encompass only the laevis-group. The menaiensis-group is allocated to Paraschizopera which includes now P. beckeri Wells (type-species), P. menaiensis (Geddes) and P. trifida (Yeatman). The new name D. brevicauda is proposed for Diagoniceps sp. sensu Bodin (1979). Keys are provided to the species of Paraschizopera and Diagoniceps, and to the genera of the Tetragonicipitidae.

Notizen: Abstract Bathycamptus eckmani gen. et spec. nov., which is associated with mudballs produced by the. cirratulid Tharyx luticastellus, is described from bathyal muds in San Diego Trough, off California. ?Heteropsyllus minutus Wells from the Haden Ground, Scotland is considered to be its closest relative and is placed in the same genus. The genera Bathycamptus and Psammocamptus Mielke are regarded as sister groups on the basis of the shared sexual dimorphism shown by P3-P4. Relationships with other marine Canthocamptidae are discussed, and a re-evaluation of the genus Hemimesochra Sars is made. It is concluded that this genus should encompass only the type species H. clavularis Sars. ?Leimia dubia Wells and H. nympha Por are transferred to the new genus Boreolimella, which is closely related to Bathycamptus but not to Leimia Willey. The genus Perucamptus gen. nov. is established to include H. rapiens Becker and shows no clear relationship with the other genera. H. trisetosa Coull is assigned to Caroliiaicola gen. nov., which is regarded as being an advanced member of the Paranannopidae. H. secunda Wells is recognised as belonging to Mesopsyllus Por; whilst H. nixe Por is considered the type species of a new genus Pusillargillus.

    Thema: Biologie
Notizen: Abstract Caligopsyllus primus Kunz, 1975, reported from tidal pools near East London (South Africa), is redescribed and figured on the basis of type material. An amended diagnosis of the genus Caligopsyllus Kunz, 1975 is presented. Cladistic analysis falsified the hypothesis of a close relationship between Caligopsyllus and Kliopsyllus Kunz, 1962, favouring instead a link with Apodopsyllus Kunz, 1962. The morphological modifications are discussed within the context of a possible ecto-associated life-style. Finally, a standard format of abbreviations and terminology is proposed for the paramesochrid caudal ramus.

    Thema: Biologie
Notizen: Abstract A new order, Gelyelloida, is proposed for Gelyella Rouch & Lescher-Moutoué, 1977 (ex Harpacticoida), an enigmatic genus of freshwater-inhabiting copepod from European karstic systems. The new order is characterized by a unique combination of generalised gnathostomous mouth parts and unusual derived features, some of them suggesting a possible neotenic origin for the order. It is suggested that gelyellids have had a long evolutionary history and separated as an early offshoot of the main cyclopoid lineage.

    Thema: Biologie
Notizen: Abstract Paramesochra mielkei sp.n. is described and figured from the interstices of subtidal sandy sediments off the SW Dutch coast. Kunz' (1981) phylogenetic scheme of the Paramesochridae Lang, 1948 is re-examined and it is suggested that the family comprises two phyletic lines which originated early in paramesochrid evolution. Translation into Linnean hierarchies implies the establishment of two new sub-families. Within the primitive Diarthrodellinae subfam. n., Tisbisoma Bozic, 1964 is ancestral to Diarthrodella Klie, 1949 s.l. and Rossopsyllus Soyer, 1975. Remanea Klie, 1929 is transferred to the Paramesochrinae subfam. n. which comprises the genera of both the Scottopsyllus- and the Paramesochra-group. The aberrant genus Caligopsyllus Kunz, 1975, standing close to Apodopsyllus, is removed from the Paramesochra-group. P. brevifurca Galhano, 1970 is splitted into two subspecies and replaced in the genus Paramesochra. An attempt is made to assess the phyletic interrelationships of the Paramesochra-species and the resulting cladogram splits the genus into four species-groups. P. mielkei sp.n. is referred to the dubia-group and seems to be closely related to P. borealis Geddes, 1981. Finally, an amended diagnosis and a revised key to the species of the genus Paramesochra are presented.

Notizen: Abstract Asterocheres reginae n. sp., of the family Asterocheridae, is described from the spongeAgelas clathrodes (Schmidt) collected at Carrie Bow Cay, Belize. It inhabits the internal canal system of its sponge host. A detailed description of both sexes is presented, and emphasis has been placed on the recognition of homologies between the limb segments and armature elements in accordance with the new evolutionary scheme established by Huys & Boxshall (1991).

Notizen: Abstract Cumoniscus kruppi Bonnier, the only tantulocarid known from a cumacean host, is redescribed from a tantulus larva collected from the Bay of Biscay. The host is a male leuconid cumacean. This genus is placed in the family Deoterthridae, and can be distinguished from other genera by the pore pattern on the cephalic shield, the reduced setae on the sixth legs and the presence of tiny curved spinules on the endopod of thoracopods 2 to 5.

Notizen: Abstract The tantulus larva ofMicrodajus langi is redescribed using Scanning Electron Microscopy. Thoracopods 2–5 have poorly developed but fully armed endites. Thoracopods 1–5 are biramous, with each ramus represented by a minute segment. A new species,M. pectinatus, is described from a tanaid host collected in the Rockall Trough, off the west coast of Scotland. A system of homologies for the portopodal segments of the thoracopods of the tantulus larva is proposed. Some aspects of the musculature of the adult male are described for the first time.
