Notes: Abstract Photoelectric light curves of the double-lined binaries XY Cet and V380 Cyg, known to be detached systems, have been reanalyzed by means of Wood's program in order to obtain homogeneous photometric elements. Masses, radii and luminosities are given. We find that the basic elements of both components of the metallic-line binary XY Cet are consistent with current views of the metallicity phenomenon. The early-type system V380 Cyg turns out to be composed of an evolved (giant) primary and a Main Sequence companion.

Notes: Abstract Using Wood's (1972) model we have re-analyzed the photoelectric light curve of the eclipsing binary AI Cru, published and unsatisfactorily discussed by Ollongren (1956), in order to obtain reliable photometric elements. Our photometric solution differs considerably from Ollongren's (1956). For our photometric mass ratio,q=0.8, both components, though detached from their Roche lobes, are fairly close to a contact configuration. AI Cru, composed of a brighter and larger B5 primary and a fainter and smaller (around B9.5) secondary, is probably not a normal Main Sequence system, since the ratios of the secondary's mass and radius over the primary's turn out to be larger than expected for main sequence stars of the same spectral types.

Notes: Abstract Using Wood's model we have reanalyzed the light curves of the eclipsing binaries QY Aql, V388 Cyg, and HS Her. For QY Aql and HS Her our photometric solutions substantially confirm previous results, thus respectively supporting ansd-d classification and a main sequence detached view. On the other hand, significantly different photometric elements have been derived for V388 Cyg, which is likely to be an evolved contact binary.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that a relation exists between the period and the area of the closed counter-clockwise path described in a two-colour diagram by an RR Lyrae star. Moreover, this area may be correlated with the work per cycle per gram performed by the photospheric layer of the pulsating star. The anomalous behaviour of RU Psc is pointed out.

Notes: Abstract We have solved von Schneller's (1962) light curve of EO Aur by means of Wood's (1972) computer model. Our solution confirms that EO Aur is a detached system. Interestingly, EO Aur appears to be anomalous since the primary component seems to be closer to the Main Sequence than the secondary.

Notes: Abstract The photoelectric light curves of TW Dra obtained by Baglow (1952) and by Walter (1978) have been re-analysed by means of Wood's (1972) model in order to obtain accurate photometric elements. Significantly different elements have resulted from the two sets of observations, but more confidence can be given to the elements deduced from Walter's (1978) data. Radii and luminosities have been computed with the aid of Popper's (1978) new values for masses. TW Dra is confirmed to be a typical sd-system, having a distinctly oversized and overluminous secondary. Interestingly, the primary appears to be slightly more luminous than expected for a Main-Sequences star, in agreement with theoretical predictions for present primaries of massexchange binaries systems.

Notes: Abstract Seven-colour photoelectric light curves-as yet unsolved-of the single-lined spectrum eclipsing binary HR 9049 (Burki and Rufener, 1980) have been analysed by means of Wood's (1972) model. HR 9049 appeared to be composed of two normal Main-Sequence detached components having appreciably different temperatures, sizes and luminosities. The hotter star, classed approximately as B6 V, is larger and brighter than its cooler companion, for which a spectral type around A5 can be inferred.

Notes: Abstract We have compared the radio continuum emission of three samples of bright (B t o 〈13) galaxies with LINER,HII region-like, and Seyfert nuclei. Basically, we have found that the objects of the first class are the weakest total and central radio emitters (for total and central unit light, respectively), whereas the Seyfert galaxies contain the most powerful central radio sources.

Notes: Abstract An investigation of the radio continuum properties of the spiral galaxies which have been classified in the Elmegreen and Elmegreen (1987) arm morphology system reveals no difference in the radio continuum emission (per light unit) for flocculent and grand design spirals. Nor is the X-ray emission (per light unit) of the two classes of spirals different. Furthermore, we find that flocculent galaxies are more frequently encountered in samples of interacting and binary galaxies than among relatively isolated objects.

Notes: Abstract We have examined a sample of ∼150 elliptical galaxies taken from a recent survey (Bursteinet al., 1987) which includes also new CCD photometric data. The fits of total luminosityL versus three different diameter indicators (i.e., the effective diameterD e, theD n diameter proposed by Dressleret al. (1987), and the isophotal diameterD 0 at 25 mag arc sec−2) had given no sign of environmental effect on such quantities. A comparison with previous results based on lower quality data was carried out in order to check the reliability of different photometries and statical tools used. Our main conclusion is that the luminosity-diameter relation seems to be universal in the range of luminosities spanned by our sample; so environmental effects, if present, must be smaller than observational errors.
