Conclusions 1. Horizontal seismic forces may be modelled in a steady centrifugal force field by replacing the trapezoidal seismic acceleration diagram by a rectangular one. The resulting error is taken into account in the construction of the seismic force and moment diagrams. 2. Centrifugal modelling combined with the photoelastic method permits studying by “freezing” of deformations the three-dimensional stress state of a hydraulic structure subjected to seismic action.
