Notes:
Summary The methods for the determination of tin with aged solutions of haematoxylin are due to the formation of a complex of tin and haematein, formed by oxidation of aqueous haematoxylin solutions. This tin-haematein complex has a composition of 1∶2, independent of the bi- or quadrivalent state of tin. Besides this main complex a 1∶1-complex is formed simultaneously, which, however, is only of very slight optical importance. The main complex has an extinction coefficient of the order of 76×103 l/Mol×cm and is, therefore, suitable for the photometric determination of tin. Procedures are described for the determination in brass, bronze, red brass, refined zinc, and bearing metals. The procedures are checked by application to several alloys.
