Beschreibung: Strongly resembling and about of the same length and development as the described specimen of Aegus Leeuweni Rits. 1) but narrower and more parallel-sided. The new species is at once recognizable by the two gibbosities on the fore-head which, no doubt, will be more conspicuous in more highly developed specimens. Moreover in the new species the basal outer angle of the mandibles is prolonged backward thus embracing the lateral angles of the head, and the anterior angles of the prothorax are rounded, not obliquely truncated. Length (with mandibles) 24,5 mm. — Black; shining with the exception of the opaque upper side of the mandibles and the fore-head as far as the top of the gibbosities, and of the closely punctured base and sides of the elytra.

Beschreibung: In the introduction of his »Uebersicht der Cetoniden der Sunda-Inselu und Molukken” (Troschel’s Archiv für Naturgesckickte. 1871. I. p. 224) Dr. Moknike puts in question the correctness of the statement about the habitat of three Rhomborrhina-specimens (two from Java: Muller, and one from Sumatra: Ludeking) at that time present in the collection of the Leyden Museum, and says to be convinced of the absence of representatives of the above genus from all the Asiatic Archipelagos with the only exception of Japan. As to the habitat »Sumatra” the late Dr. Snellen van Vollenhoven has already recorded (Tijdschrift voor Entomologie. XV. 1872. p. 125) that this was not at all doubtful, having, as lie said, taken himself the specimen out of Ludeking’s box and placed it in the collection. Afterwards I myself could ascertain the same about the habitat »Java” having received a specimen captured by Mr. Bernelot Moens in the Preanger Districts at a height of 4 à 5000 feet above the level of the sea (Tijdschr. v. Entom. XXIII. 1880. p. XCIV). Thus the presence of the genus Rhomborrhina in both these islands was sufficiently stated, the identification of the species, however, was erroneous. Snellen van Vollenhoven (1. c. p. 127) pertained in regarding the specimens above referred to as belonging to resplendens Sw., notwithstanding Mohnike (1. c.) had already expressed some doubts as to the correctness of this identification; I myself at first (1. c.) adopted Snellen van Vollenhoven’s determination, but after having received a specimen of the true resplendens, I considered the Javan and Sumatran specimens as belonging to heros G. & P. (see Tijdschr. v. Entom. XXVI. 1883. p. CXLII), an identification which I now feel sure is likewise incorrect. On page 380 of vol. XXVII (1883) of the Deutsche Entomologiscbe Zeitscbrift Dr. Kraatz describes a species of Rhomborrhina under the name of gigantea without making mention of its habitat. This species is considered by Mr. Neervoort van de Poll (Notes Leyden Museum. 1889. p. 64) to be a mere synonym of resplendens Sw., an assertion which is, and with reason, disapproved by Dr. Kraatz (Deuts. Entom. Zeits. 1889. p. 421) who mentions at the same time the island of Nias as the probable habitat of his species ¹). Moreover Dr. Kraatz maintains Dr. Burmeister’s view concerning the identity of resplendens Sw. and heros G. & P., and after a careful reexamination of the matter I fully agree with him, and have come to the conclusion that Kraatz’s Rhomborrhina gigantea is a distinct species which occurs in Nias, West Sumatra and West Java, specimens from these three islands being present in the Leyden Museum. The specimens from Java, however, are of a more golden green colour with a more or less distinct orange yellow hue on the disc of the elytra according to the light.

Beschreibung: Length (the rostrum included) 14½ mm. — Black; very densely covered all over (with the exception however of the mouth and a triangular space at the front margin of the rostrum) with greenish white scales, which show a golden lustre according to the light. Over the whole surface small black dots are present, which generally bear a short scale-like seta. The club of the antennae with the exception of its base is grayish black. The hinder part of the head is depressed, and the space between this depressed portion and the transverse groove in front of the eyes a little broader than long and provided on the middle with a longitudinal narrow groove which widens a little on the rostrum. The head and rostrum are dispersedly punctured; the punctures on the rostrum are placed somewhat closer together than those on the head. The scape of the antennae is a little longer than the two basal joints of the funicle taken together; the first joint of the funicle is shorter than the 2nd, the 2nd as long as the 3rd and 4th taken together, the 7th joint as large as the 4th; the club is elongate ovate, pointed at the tip, and nearly as long as the four apical joints of the funicle taken together.

Beschreibung: Length 13 mm., breadth at the shoulders 7 mm. — Black; head, thorax and abdomen with a faint coppery hue, scutellum and elytra with a faint metallic green hue mixed with coppery; antennae pale fulvous, the palpi slightly darker. Head and thorax lustreless, elytra and abdomen subshining. — Clypeus densely punctured, broadly rounded, front margin turned upwards; separated from the face by a shining impunctate streak. Face strongly and deeply punctured, the punctures a trifle larger than those on the pronotum. — Pronotum exceedingly densely and regularly punctured, the narrow interspaces between the punctures forming irregular longitudinal and oblique fine ridges; the anterior lateral angles flattened, rather acutely protruding, shining, with a few punctures and upturned outer edge. Scutellum deeply punctured, the extreme base and the apex smooth. — Elytra strongly though not very densely punctured, with the 1st and 2nd costa very distinct, owing to the impressed bordering lines which are marked with very closely set punctures; these costae are impunctate and the 1st one is a trifle broader than the 2nd. The 3rd or humeral costa is rather indistinct and narrower; the space between it and the three lateral rows of punctures is punctured like the rest of the elytra. The sutural interstices bear a row of small punctures which doubles beyond the middle of the elytra. — The propygidium is rugosely punctured, the pygidium very coarsely and with a smooth longitudinal line at the base. — The sides of the metasternum are punctured about in the same way as the pronotum, the middle portion however is remotely punctured. The punctures on the ventral segments are large and not close together. — The anterior tibiae are tridentate, the upper tooth rather obliterate. Hab. Burma: Theinzeik (P. Loizeau). — The described specimen belongs to Mr. René Oberthür.

Beschreibung: Closely allied to A. sulcata Kolbe ¹), but at once distinguished by its strong metallic colour (sulcata is deep black), more robust shape and only slightly emarginate front margin of the clypeus (in sulcata the clypeus is deeply emarginate in both sexes). Length 11 mm. — Above glabrous, very shining, bright metallic purplish with metallic green tinges; beneath the metallic hue is less distinct, especially on the prosternum and sides of metasternum; the legs black, the tarsi dark pitchy with rufous hairs; the punctures on the under surface of the body and on the legs with a minute decumbent white hair. Antennae, palpi and claws dark rufous.

Beschreibung: This species is closely allied to Eurybatus novempunctatus Westw. ¹), but easily distinguished by the different armature of the antennae, these having not only the 3rd—5th joints spined at the end, but the 6th joint too is provided with a spine which, inter alia, is more distinct than that on the 5th joint in novempunctatus. As regards the coloration it agrees with novempunctatus, but the pronotum is unspotted and the tubercle which in novempuncta{us proceeds from the lateral black spots is entirely wanting; the four anterior elytral spots are rather small and round, the two posterior ones large and transverse , rather narrowly separated at the suture but reaching the thickened lateral margins; moreover the apical margins are broadly bordered with black; underneath the distribution of the colours is exactly the same as in novempunctatus.

Beschreibung: This new species is closely allied to Helota Vandepolli Rits. ¹) from Borneo, but at once distinguished by the more strongly raised interstices of the elytra, by the deeper angular notches at the apical portion of the lateral margins of the elytra and by the more blackish (less bronze) colour of the upper side. Length 12 mm. — Subshining above, very shining underneath; above blackish, with very faint tinges of dark bronze green; each elytron provided with two small convex flavous spots, situated between the 3rd and 6th striae; underneath testaceous, except the head without the throat, the anterior margin and the front angles of the middle portion as well as the lateral portions of the prosternum, and the elytral epipleurae which parts are dark bronze green. Antennae dark pitchy, the 3 or 4 basal joints reddish. Legs testaceous, the tip of the femora and the extreme base and apex of the tibiae black, the tarsi dark pitchy brown. Head strongly produced in front of the eyes, almost inconspicuously raised between the eyes, the raised portion broadly flattened and covered with large punctures, which are strongly contrasting with those on the lateral streaks along the eyes, where they are minute and closely set; along the middle of the narrowed front portion the punctures are still smaller and scarce.

Beschreibung: In a small collection of oriental insects, handed to me for identification by Mr. H. Veen of Haarlem, was a specimen of a large black Macroma-species, captured by his brother, Mr. Ed. Veen, on Mount Pangolot in the district Groot Mandheling of the Tapanoeli Residency, West Sumatra. This specimen agreed admirably well with the description and figure of Macroma insignis Gestro (Ann. Mus. Civ. Genova, vol. XXX, p. 852; pl. 2, fig. 10), but as this species was described from a specimen from Burma (Mount Cariani, at an elevation of 1300 — 1400 meter above the level of the sea), I thought it of interest to examine, if possible, the type-specimen. I therefore wrote to Dr. Gestro, who, without delay, sent it to me.
