Notizen: Abstract Radial colour gradients in the globular clusters NGC 2808, NGC 1851, NGC 5139, NGC 5139, NGC 6388, NGC 6441, NGC 6541, NGC 6723, and NGC 7099 were searched byB-V and DDO photoelectric photometry, using a set of circular diaphragms. Two of the observed globular clusters, NGC 5139 (ωCen) and NGC 7099 (M30), showedB-V and C(45–48) colour gradients; the colour C(42–45) is essentially constant in these clusters, which means that the physical reason for those gradients cannot be attributed to chemical composition variations, since C(42–45) is a good metal abundance indicator.B-V colours in the external regions of NGC 5139 and NGC 7099 were obtained by synthesizing the observed HR diagrams of these clusters. The ages and the relaxation times for NGC 5139 and NGC 7099 indicate that mass segregation must have taken place in both clusters, which is probably related to the observed colour gradients.

Notizen: Abstract Photometric, morphological and spectral grounds suggest that the peculiar nuclei regions of NGC 1097, 1672, 2997, 5236, and 7552 are composed basically of a normal nucleus surrounded by several large but otherwise normal (T e ∼8000 K,N e ∼1000/cm3) H II regions. The stellar components are also normal although in some cases (NGC 1097, 1672, 1808 and 7552) there is a larger contribution of late type stars.

Notizen: Abstract Photographic photometry and spectroscopic observations of NGC 4575 suggest it to be a galaxy of reduced dimensionsD×d=14.4×13.5 kpc and of high luminosityM=−20.7. The rotation curve was also determined. Assuming a model of three homogeneous similar spheroids, we derived the density and mass distribution, and their total mass was found to be ℳ T =2.33 × 1010ℳ. The mass luminosity ratio does not vary withinr=24″, indicating that the stellar composition is similar within it, and the ratio ℳ T /ℒ T ∼1 suggests that this object contains a high proportion of young stars. From the emission lines it is found that the electronic density Ne∼100 cm−3 is relatively low in the HII regions. The abundance ratiosN(N)/N(S) andN(N)/N(H) for the nucleus and two emission regions were also derived.

Notizen: Abstract Morphology and elliptically averaged luminosity profiles have been derived from CCD surface photometry of thirteen seyfert galaxies. ApparentV andI magnitudes,V-I colour index, as well as absolute Mv and MI magnitudes have been calculatedV andI luminosity profiles of Mk 10, Mk 79, Mk 358, Mk 618, Mk 352, and Mk 110, are adjusted by the usual model bulge plus disk with structural parameters comparable to those observed in normal spirals. The averaged luminosity profiles of Mk 50, Mk 124, Mk 348, and 3C227 are fitted byr −1/4 law with structural parameters similar to those observed in ellipticals and red compact galaxies. Mk 42 and NGC 985 show disturbed luminosity profiles.

Notizen: Summary A 13C NMR study of four samples of poly(sucrose methacrylate) differing in molecular weight and degree of crosslinking was performed to determine their structure. It was concluded that Sucro-Gel H-70 polymer consists mainly of monomer units of isomeric monoesters principally esterified in C6 C6′ C4 position and forming atactic helical chains with some crosslinks due to the presence of substituted monomer units.

Beschreibung: We present new maps of emission-line flux distributions and kinematics in both ionized (traced by H i and [Fe ii ] lines) and molecular (H 2 ) gas of the inner 0.7 x 0.7 kpc 2 of the galaxy NGC 4303, with a spatial resolution 40–80 pc and velocity resolution 90–150 km s – 1 obtained from near-IR integral field spectroscopy using the Very Large Telescope instrument SINFONI. The most prominent feature is a 200–250 pc ring of circumnuclear star-forming regions. The emission from ionized and molecular gas shows distinct flux distributions: while the strongest H i and [Fe ii ] emission comes from regions in the west side of the ring (ages ~ 4 Myr), the H 2 emission is strongest at the nucleus and in the east side of the ring (ages 〉 10 Myr). We find that regions of enhanced hot H 2 emission are anti-correlated with those of enhanced [Fe ii ] and H i emission, which can be attributed to post-starburst regions that do not have ionizing photons anymore but still are hot enough (2000 K) to excite the H 2 molecule. The line ratios are consistent with the presence of an active galactic nucleus at the nucleus. The youngest regions have stellar masses in the range 0.3–1.5 x 10 5  M and ionized and hot molecular gas masses of ~0.25–1.2 x 10 4 M and ~2.5–5 M , respectively. The stellar and gas velocity fields show a rotation pattern, with the gas presenting larger velocity amplitudes than the stars, with a deviation observed for the H 2 along the nuclear bar, where increased velocity dispersion is also observed, possibly associated with non-circular motions along the bar. The stars in the ring show smaller velocity dispersion than the surroundings, which can be attributed to a cooler dynamics due to their recent formation from cool gas.

Beschreibung: We investigate interaction effects on the dynamics and morphology of the galaxy pairs AM 2058-381 and AM 1228-260. This work is based on r ' images and long-slit spectra obtained with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph at the Gemini South Telescope. The luminosity ratio between the main (AM 2058A) and secondary (AM 2058B) components of the first pair is a factor of ~ 5, while for the other pair, the main (AM 1228A) component is 20 times more luminous than the secondary (AM 1228B). The four galaxies have pseudo-bulges, with a Sérsic index n  〈 2. Their observed radial velocities profiles (RVPs) present several irregularities. The receding side of the RVP of AM 2058A is displaced with respect to the velocity field model, while there is a strong evidence that AM 2058B is a tumbling body, rotating along its major axis. The RVPs for AM 1228A indicate a misalignment between the kinematic and photometric major axes. The RVP for AM 1228B is quite perturbed, very likely due to the interaction with AM 1228A. NFW halo parameters for AM 2058A are similar to those of the Milky Way and M 31. The halo mass of AM 1228A is roughly 10 per cent that of AM 2058A. The mass-to-light (M/L) of AM 2058 agrees with the mean value derived for late-type spirals, while the low M/L for AM 1228A may be due to the intense star formation ongoing in this galaxy.

Beschreibung: We present an observational study of the interaction effect on the dynamics and morphology of the minor merger AM 1219–430. This work is based on r ' and g ' images and long-slit spectra obtained with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph at the Gemini South Telescope. We detected a tidal tail in the main galaxy (AM 1219A) and a bridge of material connecting the galaxies. In luminosity, AM 1219A is about 3.8 times brighter than the secondary (AM 1219B). The surface brightness profile of AM 1219A was decomposed into bulge and disc components. The profile shows a light excess of ~53 per cent due to the contribution of star-forming regions, which is typical of starburst galaxies. On the other hand, the surface brightness profile of AM 1219B shows a lens structure in addition to the bulge and disc. The scalelengths and central magnitudes of the disc structure of both galaxies agree with the average values derived for galaxies with no sign of ongoing interaction or disturbed morphology. The Sérsic index ( n  〈 2), the effective and scale radii of the bulge of both galaxies are typical of pseudo-bulges. The rotation curve of AM 1219A derived from the emission line of ionized gas is quite asymmetric, suggesting a gas perturbed by interaction. We explore all possible values of stellar and dark matter masses. The overall best-fitting solution for the mass distribution of AM 1219A was found with M/L for bulge and disc of $\Upsilon _{\rm b}=2.8_{-0.4}^{+0.4}$ and $\Upsilon _{\rm d}=2.4_{-0.2}^{+0.3}$ , respectively, and a Navarro et al. profile of $M_{200}=2.0_{-0.4}^{+0.5}\times 10^{12}\,\mathrm{M}_{{\odot }}$ and $c=16.0_{-1.1}^{+1.2}$ . The estimated dynamical mass is 1.6 10 11 M , within a radius of ~10.6 kpc.
