Description:
Description:
The region of the Gulf of Gabes continues to be under the influence of important anthropic pressure, combined with the introduction of exotic species. Investigations conducted in 2009 and 2010 have proved the presence of toxic phytoplankton species and ciliary species bio-indicator of pollution. In Ballast water, approximately 40% of the samples were free of any cell, 40% containing less than five taxa, and about 20% more than 10 taxa. The study of zooplankton revealed the presence of 20 groups of which the most important is that of copepods. Near 1641 macro marine species have been inventoried in the Gulf of Gabes. Macro algae et phanerogams (15%%), Sessile groups and vagile macrofauna represent (65.9%) while vertebrates are represented by (18.7%: Bivalves (9%), Decapod crustaceans (2.13%) and brittle stars (0.7%), Turbellarians, Nemertins, Sipunculiens and Polychaetes (7.9%); crustaceans (11.7%, with the exception of the Decapod); Molluscs (22.9%, with the exception of the Bivalves); and sea cucumbers (0.7%). Several migrants from the Red Sea and Atlantic Ocean are observed. Taking into account the new reports obtained from the literature published after 2010, the number of alien species reached 91 species. The main component is of original Indo-Pacific (57.1%), followed by that of original Atlantic (24.7%). Circumtropical-cosmopolitan species represent only 18.7%. Six species are new for the Tunisian water: Cymodoceaangustata (Angiospermophyte); Rhopilemanomadica (Scyphomedusa); Branchiommaluctuosum (PolychaeteSabellide); Brachidontespharaonis (Bivalve); Erugosquillamassavensis (Stomatopode crustacean) and Dyspanopeussayi (Crustacean Decapod). Two species are new for the gulf of Gabes: Echinolittorinapunctata (gastropod) and Ruditapesphilippinarum (Bivalve).
