Abstract Substitution of K for Na in certain nuclear fuel reprocessing cycles may allow an increase of waste loading in Synroc, because K can be incorporated in the barium hollandite phase more easily than Na. The use of rare-earth additions to stabilize Na in the perovskite phase may also have merit.
