Summary Meteorus versicolor Wesm., a polyphagous endoparasitic Braconid, attacks successfully the young caterpillars ofThaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff. during autumn. Hibernation occurs as a first instar larva inside the host and development is resumed in early spring during the fifth instar of the caterpillars wich are killed before pupation. The importance ofM. versicolor as a controlling factor ofT. pityocampa varies greatly from one place to another and depends on the availability of secondary hosts to complete annual cycle during summer.
