Notes: Abstract The reflection spectra of La0.67Ba0.33MnO3 ceramic samples prepared with different annealing times in oxygen are investigated. It is shown that conduction is implemented both by low-mobility carriers (polarons) and by comparatively mobile band-type carriers.

Notes: Abstract An experimental study is reported of the temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity and magnetoresistance, thermal and magnetothermal EMF, the Hall effect, optical reflectance, sound velocity, and internal friction of polycrystalline lanthanum manganite La0.60Eu0.07Sr0.33MnO3 carried out within the 77–430-K temperature range. Substitution of a small amount of europium for lanthanum has been found to result in a considerable decrease in the resistivity and a change in the behavior of its temperature dependence. Four characteristic temperatures at which special features are observed in the above properties have been identified. The discussion of the conduction mechanisms involved is based on the concept of mobility edge motion.

Notes: Abstract The Hall effect in polycrystalline barium-substituted lanthanum manganite La0.67Ba0.33MnO3 has been investigated in the temperature interval 298〈T〈355 K. It is found that the anomalous Hall coefficient in this material is two orders of magnitude greater than the normal coefficient. At T 0=333 K the normal Hall coefficient changes sign, which indicates a change in the type of conductivity. The temperature dependence of the normal Hall coefficient, electrical conductivity, and magnetoresistance is explained on the basis of the concept of motion of the mobility edge attendant as the temperature changes.

Notes: Abstract An experimental study of the Hall effect and of magnetoresistance in polycrystalline La0.67−x CexSr0.33MnO3 samples (x=0, 0.07) is reported. It is shown that the normal Hall coefficient reverses sign at T 0=360 K in both samples and that metallic conduction occurs for T〈T 0, while for T〉T 0 the conduction is by mechanisms operative in disordered materials. It has been established that doping with cerium brings about an increase in the metallic phase of the normal and anomalous Hall coefficients. A qualitative interpretation of the observed features is given.

Notes: Abstract The diffusion of oxygen tracer atoms has is, and a diffusion-structural analysis is made of the oxygen subsystem of the Sr2.4Ca1.6Bi2O8.8 oxide representing a copper-free precursor of bismuth high-T c superconductors. The diffusion in this compound has been shown to be superanisotropic. It has been established that superanisotropic diffusion in the oxygen subsystem of oxide systems, rather than being connected with the high-temperature superconductivity and the existence of CuO2 planes, is accounted for by the general features of their crystal structure.

Notes: Abstract The interaction of V2O5 with calcium oxide and calcium carbonate was studied by thermal analysis. The results indicated that the macrosuccession of the phase transformations in the systems CaO-V2O5 and CaCO3-V2O5 corresponds to an increasing calcium content in each successively formed calcium vanadate. Thermodynamical calculations carried out by methods available in the literature for determining the primary products and the succession of the subsequently formed products demonstrate that chemical reactions proceeding in the above systems are controlled by kinetic and not by thermodynamic factors.

Notes: Abstract Methods of thermodynamic analysis and gravimetric measurement are used to study graphite and its mixtures with metal oxides heated to 1000°C under nonisothermal conditions. The chemical compatibility of graphite with Al2O3, CaO, SiO2, MgO, Fe2O3, TiO2, Na2O, and K2O is investigated. It is shown experimentally that under the given conditions the loss of mass (Δm /m) in specimens with these additives as reflected by the gravimetric curves does not exceed Δm /m in a purely graphite specimen.

Notes: Abstract A thermodynamic investigation of the interaction between the oxide phases Al2Si2O7 and SiO2 of graphite-containing crucibles and metallic melts of the Al — Si system is presented. Al2O3 and metallic silicon are shown to be the equilibrium products of the reactions.

Notes: Conclusions 1. A derivatographic study was made of the oxidation process of titanium oxycarbides, carbonitrides, and oxynitrides. 2. The chemistry of the oxidation process and, qualitatively, its mechanism are examined. It has been established that the stability of the compounds investigated diminishes in the series titanium carbonitrides-oxynitrides-oxycarbides.
