Description / Table of Contents: Summary The temperature dependence of the longitudinal proton relaxation timeT 1 in solid and swelled cispolyisoprene (natural rubber) shows in the range between −195°C and +150°C at the Larmor frequencies 4, 22, 44 and 86 MHz two well separated minima, which can be ascribed to two kinds of chain segment motion with different activation energies. The high-temperature minimum is interpreted by kink jumps and the low-temperature minimum by methyl-group rotation. In both cases one has to assume aCole-Davidson distribution of jumping times.

Notes: Abstract Tunable mid-infrared pulses are generated with a MgO:LiNbO3-based traveling-wave optical parametric amplifier in single and double stage operation regime pumped by a 1-kHz Ti:sapphire regenerative amplifier system. For the first time to our knowledge a pulsed laser diode is successfully used in the femtosecond regime as a compact seed source at the signal wavelength where the tunability of the generated idler pulses can be realized by tuning the seed wavelength. Almost transform limited mid-infrared pulses as short as 130 and 160 fs with pulse energies as high as 5 and 15 μJ are produced near 3.5 μm by the single and double stage scheme, respectively. The pulse to pulse fluctuations in both cases do not exceed 2% which corresponds to the stability of the pump source.

Notes: Abstract Nearly transform limited femtosecond pulses tunable between 2.56 and 3.16 μm have been generated by optical parametric amplification. The single stage parametric amplifier is pumped by a tunable high power femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser system at 1 kHz repetition rate and seeded by quasi-continuous wave (cw) radiation from the Q-switched Nd:YLF laser used to pump the regenerative amplifier. The ≈100 fs idler pulses are shorter than the pump pulses. The mechanism of the achieved pulse compression is discussed and experimental results are compared with numerical simulations.

Notes: Abstract We report on measurements of the63Cu nuclear spin relaxation time in the rotating frame,T 1ρ, in solid copper as a function of temperature and Larmor frequency, from which the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient was evaluated using Torrey's theory. Within the relatively small temperature range (572 °C ≦ ϑ ≦ 838 °C) in which diffusion relaxation dominates, the temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficient is compatible with a simple Arrhenius law. However, in an evaluation including recent tracer results in an essentially larger temperature range (353 °C≦ϑ≦1079 °C) clear deviations from this standard interpretation were found, as implied by Seeger's divacancy formalism. From those deviations we have calculated a more reliable set of diffusion parameters than comparable data in the literature.

Notes: Abstract Macroscopic relaxation phenomena of a magnetic spin system in a magnetic field are related to microscopic fluctuations and the corresponding correlations by the systematical theory of relaxation. In the paper presented here this relationship is investigated experimentally for some typical examples in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance by means of the frequency dependence of nuclear magnetic relaxation times. A short description of a pulse spectrometer which operates on 12 different frequencies from 50 kc to 160 Mc is given. From the dispersion of bothT 1 andT 2 in various paramagnetic solutions, as well as in pure liquids, correlation times of the relaxation process are evaluated. The form of these dispersion curves is especially suitable for distinguishing between translational and rotational power spectra and allows for conclusions about the corresponding molecular motions.
