Notes: [Auszug] Fig. 1 shows that, as a result of the ozone treatment, the fluorescence of the samples decreased with increasing time of treatment, that is, increasing amount of ozone introduced into the samples. Curve a of Fig. 1 refers to the fluorescence before the ozone treatment, b to that after 3 min. ...

Notes: [Auszug] Earlier optical and conductivity measurements showed that recovery takes place after the disks had been prepared. This recovery process can also be observed with the luminescent disks : the total light radiated gradually decreases with time. After heat treatment of the luminescent disks, the total ...

Notes: [Auszug] Sodium chloride crystals were grown from a melt and their surfaces investigated with an opaque illuminator microscope. A set of small lines was observed. The crystals were then put in a not quite saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, which acted as an etching reagent. After a few minutes ...

Notes: Abstract The investigated alkali halides (Nacl, KCl, RbCl and CsCl) decompose under electron irradiation into alkali metal colloids and chlorine gas. This decomposition is a special case of radiation damage effects, which strongly influence the crystalline structure and the physical properties of the crystals under investigation. The decomposition process consists of the breaking up of the single crystalline material into polycrystalline aggregates; at the same time cavities, or larger aggregates of vacancies are produced, which, together with the boundaries of the polycrystalline aggregates, serve as the nuclei of growing dark platelets, which appear to be precipitated alkali metal crystals.
