Notes: [Auszug] The experiments were carried out with 10,000g supernatant of RBL-1 homogenates5'6. The buffer used for the preparation contained 50 mM phosphate pH7, 1 mM EDTA, 0.1% gelatin and 14 jxM indomethacin. Briefly, RBL-1 cells were washed once with buffer, resuspended at 5 x 107 cells per ml and ...

Notes: Abstract An elastic-plastic thin shell finite element suitable for problems of finite deformation in sheet metal forming is formulated. Hill's yield criterion for sheet materials of normal anisotropy is applied. A nonlinear shell theory in a form of an incremental variational principle and a quasi-conforming element technique are employed in the Lagrangian formulation. The shell element fulfills the inter-element C 1 continuity condition in a variational sense and has a sufficient rank to allow finite stretching, rotation and bending of the shell element. The accuracy and efficiency of the finite element formulation are illustrated by numerical examples.

Notes: The plane strain fracture toughness and fracture mechanisms of several tough engineering plastics have been studied and compared with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), a relatively brittle polymer. The tough polymers all are observed to form a multiple craze zone at the crack tip, which is shown to be the primary source of plane strain fracture toughness in these materials. The multiple craze zone is retained during slow crack growth but is metastable, and at a critical stress intensity and associated crack velocity, the system passes through a transition to a greatly accelerated single craze mode of unstable propagation.

Notes: Abstract The penetration of a wedge-like tool into an ice sheet at the interface with its substrate may develop a semi-elliptic interfacial crack. The Griffith energy-balance concept is employed to determine the critical conditions for interfacial crack propagation. The results show that an interfacial crack of any semi-elliptic shape tends to propagate in a stable manner and change the shape to a critical shape at which the propagation becomes unstable. The interfacial crack propagation may be interrupted by transverse fractures in the ice sheet.

Notes: Abstract A test vehicle described herein has been developed for applying biaxial, tension-internal pressure, loading to thinwalled tubular specimens over a range of loading rates. The dynamic responses, as well as static initial and subsequent yield surfaces of a number of specimens made of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, are presented. The stress path obtained in a dynamic biaxial test was reporduced statically. The corresponding stress-strain curves have been compared and found significantlky different. It is found that the dynamic initial yielding occurs at a higher state of biaxial stress depending on the loading rate than that of static yielding.
