Notes: Abstract Redistribution reactions between a mixture of Si2 Me 2Cl4 and Si2 Me 2Br4 show an exchange of halogen atoms at room temperature. After 10 hours at 60 °C the equilibrium state is attained and all possible compounds Si2 Me 2Cl4−n Br n are formed, but not in a statistical distribution. Possible reasons for this distribution and general rules for the exchange of substituents on disilanes are postulated.

Notes: Summary He (I) PE spectra of cyclopentasilane and cyclohexasilane show excellent agreement with STO-3 G + ab initio calculations. The HOMO in both compounds is of σ (SiSi) 3 p character. First IP's appear at 9.4 and 9.6 eV respectively.

Notes: Abstract Starting from Si6 ph 12 (I) the cyclohexasilanes Si6 ph 6Br6 (II), Si6 ph 6H6 (III) and Si6Br12 (IV) and a cyclopentasilane, Si5 ph 8 me 2, were prepared and characterized by analysis, NMR- and mass spectroscopy. A high stability of the five membered ring in comparison to the other ring sizes is found by chemical investigation and by mass fragmentation. I. r. and Raman spectra were measured and assigned, high coupling effects, mainly in the SiSi region, explain some anomaluos frequencies.

Notes: Abstract NMR-data of pentaphenylcyclopentasilane show the configuration of this compound. Nonaphenylcyclopentasilane was prepared as a new compound and shown, that the chemical shift is dependent on the degree of substituation.

Notes: Abstract The formation of SiSi-bonds by a photochemical reaction of silylmercury compounds is described. The silylmercury compounds [(X 3Si)3Si]2Hg (X=Cl, OCH3) were synthesized via theVyazankin Hydrid method with (X 3Si)3SiH and Bis(t-butyl)mercury. By UV-irradiation of these products in hexane as a solvent, the oligosilanes [(X 3Si)3Si]2 are formed in good yields. All these compounds are charactericed by spectroscopical methods.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Infrarot- undRaman-Spektren vonn-Si4Cl10,n-Si5Cl12,neo-Si5Cl12 und [(SiCl3)3Si]2 wurden aufgenommen und zugeordnet. Ein lokales Symmetrie-Kraftfeld zur Simulation der Spektren aller bisher bekannten (nicht cyclischen) Perchlorsilane Si n Cl2n+2 (n=2, 3, 4, 5, 8) wird angegeben. Die beobachteten Spektren werden zufriedenstellend reproduziert $$\left( {\frac{1}{m}\sum {\left| {\frac{{\Delta v}}{v}} \right|} = 4\% , m = Gesamtzahl beobachteter Grundschwingungen} \right).$$
Notes: Abstract Infrared andRaman vibrational spectra ofn-Si4Cl10,n-Si5Cl12,neo-Si5Cl12 and [(SiCl3)3Si]2 have been measured and assigned. A local symmetry force field has been developed to simulate vibrational spectra of all (noncyclic) perchlorosilanes Si n Cl2n+2 known today (n=2, 3, 4, 5, 8). The observed spectra are reproduced satisfactorily $$\left( {\frac{1}{m}\sum {\left| {\frac{{\Delta v}}{v}} \right|} = 4\% , m = total number of observed fundamentals} \right).$$

Notes: Abstract Rate constants of the cleavage reaction of silicon aryl linkages with HBr were estimated for various aryl derivatives by means of NMR. A row of substituents was obtained, dependent on the cleavage rates. Correlation with theHammett function shows the electrophilic character of the reaction. The different cleavage rates give the possibility for specific cleavages of aryl groups from silanes.

Notes: Abstract Oligo-silyl-mercury compounds (Si nR 2n+1)2Hg (R=aryl, halogens) are synthesized from the siliconmonohydrides by reaction with (t-Bu)2Hg and characterized. Treatment of the Silyl-mercury compounds with Na/K- alloy yields the corresponding alkali metal derivatives. Both reactions are very well suitable for the synthesis of oligosilanes.
