Abstract The results of compaction of soils classed as type II in terms of proneness to slump-type settlement with the use of new procedures calling for the tamping out of soil cushions by a tampers weighing 5 and 11.8 tons, including tamping with wetting and sectioning of the wetted mass, made it possible to shorten considerably the time required to prepare the beds and construct buildings on a military post in Budennovsk.
